Shitty thing that happened to me: Was on my way to an unusually early appointment and got checked at 8:50am, 10 minutes before my 9am pass would be valid. I was genuinely surprised, since I never take transport this early so totally had forgotten about the rule.

Unfortunately, they didn't budge when I called them. Most expensive haircut I've ever gotten.

Anyway, I thought I'd share this thing with you: Should I open my SBB app or Google Maps before 9am, my phone is now gonna warn me to get a ticket. It's something that a lot of people don't know is even possible so I thought I'd share. Android has got to have a similar functionality.

Considering also displaying this warning whenever an alarm clock goes off before a certain time since that could also mean that I'm doing something out-of-routine.

Actually, I just saw that you can let it start EasyRide via the Automation tool! I'm going to let it start EasyRide whenever I leave my home address between 5am and 9am. Probably overkill but it avoids all such mistakes in the future.

I hope I can save someone a fine this way!

Brief tutorial for the simple notification when opening an app before a certain time:

Open the app "Shortcuts/Kurzbefehle" and go to "Automation". Add a new one with the + top right, go to "App", choose "when opened" and to execute it immediately. Choose the app in question (one at a time, I think), click "Continue" and there you should be able to assemble the automation by choosing "Date", editing that to Time, inputting the time by tapping within that field, choosing "If/Wenn" for the condition, and "Notification/Hinweis" for the actual warning text.

Let me know if you need further help!

That could cause a lot of false positives:

You check the schedule on the app, but GPS incorrectly puts you outside of your house -> you bought a ticket.

You go pick up someone at the station, check when the train arrives -> you bought a ticket.

Your train is scheduled at 9:01, you start walking before 9 -> you bought a ticket

Maybe that works on iOS. On Android, it will only open the SBB app on the EasyRide tab, but you still have to start it manually.

  3. Thank you, forgetting about the time frame is also a thing for me, esp. in the mornings when i am barely awak

  4. Saturday, Sunday and general public Holidays the 9 Uhr pass is valid from 00:00.
