Last week I booked to see the new Bad guys 2 film, noticed during booking that I had first pickings! Anyway got there and the place was empty, thought to myself "Oh, well I am a little early", ads and previews started playing, and still no one. Anyway film starts and its just me there! I'm not sure how sad it looked, me sat there on me lonesome laughing to myself, munching biscuits like some kind of spider spread across multiple seats. Either way I had an awesome time haha and will absolutely be going to the cinema by myself again, good fun and fits really well with my shift pattern.

  1. When I was young (about 12) went to see Congo at the cinema and there was just me and my mate in the screening. Commando rolls down the aisles, throwing popcorn at imaginary people, not worrying about talking. Good times. 10/10 would recommend having a screen to yourself.

  2. Try taking a game console, see if they’ll hook that up so you can play BIG screen.

  3. I had this exact same scenario with Hardcore Henry years ago, nothing like a private screening

  4. That’s depressing. Rather be at home!  A big crowd makes a film. A nice shared moment.

  5. I’ve had this on a number of occasions where I’ve been the only person in a screening.

When it’s been a showing later in the evening that’s ending after ten or eleven o’clock then I sort of feel sorry for the staff given you’re basically the only paying customer in the cinema so you’re stopping them clocking off early.

However, there’s something great about having an entire showing to yourself whilst sitting in the best seat in the house. I think the last time that happened was when I saw a midday screening of Michael Bay’s **AmbuLAnce** starring Jake Gyllenhaal going absolutely, balls-to-thewall, batshit mental. That was fun.

  6. I’ve had this before during lockdown, when we were allowed to start mixing again. I saw Tenet and I know the film gets lots of stick, but I loved the experience of having the cinema to myself

  7. Seeing as you’re by yourself, ask for the remote.

  8. Has a similar experience with Blade Runner 2049.

    Felt like I was intruding.

  9. Going on yourself is the way. Ive been about 40 times on my own this year. Its brilliant

  10. Saw a screening of the restored 2001 A Space Odyssey nearly alone in a cinema but with just one other guy a few rows back. I’m sure he was just annoyed with me being there as I was with him.

But we both loudly applauded at the end.

  11. I was one of three for Scott Pilgrim. Dude sat in front of me, which was weird, but we were both in stitches throughout the movie.

  12. I had this once but it’s loud af without all the other bodies absorbing the sound.

  13. I’ve had this twice, once was Slither (2006) and I can’t for the life of me remember the other

  14. I saw a horror film on my own in a cinema, it was creepier being alone in a space that should be full of people.

  15. We had the cinema to ourselves the other week for 28 Years Later, was worried we’d have a bunch of teens on their phones dotted about but got lucky. Similar experience with The Favorite a few years ago.

  16. i always go to the cinema by myself its the best way!

  17. Watched ‘mudsommer’ my own in a cinema. Kinda made it creepier.

  18. Had this during a late night viewing of the new avatar movie it was so good

  19. I had this with two mates when Phantom Menace came out, I sat in every single seat

  20. Had this happen in Plymouth when my dad and I watched Planes 2

  21. Thought it was Snow White for a hot minute. Is anyone actually going to see Bad Guys 2 (haven’t seen first one so I may skip) or is this just like really early or late in the day

  22. I got to watch Avengers: Infinity War on my own. To this day, it’s probably been my favorite movie I have ever watched at the cinema.

  23. I somehow managed to get an empty screen for a showing of ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ back in ‘97.

It was fucking glorious. I think I cried a bit when Yoda lifted Luke’s X-Wing out of the Dagobah swamp. The empty room made it feel so intimate and overwhelming..almost like I was there with them. I’m a silly old sod at times.

  24. This happened to me ages ago when I went to watch Transporter 2 on a Saturday morning. Only one watching the film, it was great!

  25. I almost had this for Mars Express but some dude walked in right before the movie started!!!

  26. I had this my second time viewing Sonic 3. I sang along when they played Live & Learn.

  27. I have enjoyed many a cinema to myself in the past. I went to see a film, years ago, about a WW2 (Russian perspective) and the ticket office guy said I was the only person to have bought a ticket to see it all week! Undeserved lack of interest too as it was a good film.

In contrast, today, every single seat in the cinema screen I was in was taken (only exception was the companion seat for the wheelchair accessible space). It was pretty awful as a customer (but amazing for the cinema of course) as people were taking, checking phones, rustling packs and seemed to need to pee every five minutes lol.

  28. We had this when my wife and I were flying to Tokyo the next day.

It was an early flight so we decided to stay up the whole night, and what better way, than going and watching the love action ghost in the shell at an 11pm showing.

    Just us, so good.

  29. I’m not sure if we’ve ever had the entire screen to ourselves but I’ve definitely gone when there were only one or two other people. We were the only ones that stayed for the Superman post credits scene though. That felt weird. Like hanging around at a party that finished an hour ago.

  30. I’ve taken early retirement and I tend to wait until the films I want to see have been out a couple of weeks and I go to early screenings. It’s cheaper and often there’s one else there to annoy me. I saw the superman movie on my own in westend of London. I don’t bother going in the school holidays though.

  31. I took the kids to see this film recently as they loved the original and it was good. However when people asked what we saw they had no idea what the bad guys was.

I think unfortunately it’s fallen right in the middle of other big well marketed blockbusters: the fantastic four, superman and Jurassic world.
I can’t remember what was out when the first bad guys released but I remember it being quite low key then too.

Either way both enjoyable films kids loved them!

  32. This has only happened for me when I went to see The Raid in cinema when it released, me and two friends only ones in the screening, was awesome because the film was an action gem!
