Before stepping down as working royals and moving to the U.S., Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were fixtures at Trooping the Colour, also known as the King’s Birthday Parade.
Meghan, who recently celebrated her 44th birthday, made her debut at Trooping the Colour in 2018, shortly after getting married to Harry at Windsor Castle.
However, Prince Harry’s tell-all book, Spare, sheds light on an uncomfortable moment during the event. He reveals that Meghan attempted to make a joke with her sister-in-law Princess Kate, which was met with a “yawning silence.”

Meghan, looking radiant in a pale pink ensemble and hat, stood beside her husband, who was in his military attire, reports the Mirror US.
Despite being seen conversing with Kate, William, and Camilla, Harry discloses that there was tension behind the scenes.
Meghan’s bad joke at Trooping the Colour
According to Harry, after they returned indoors, Kate inquired about Meghan’s thoughts on her first Trooping the Colour, to which Meghan responded: “Colorful.”
Harry recounts in his memoir: “A yawning silence threatened to swallow us all whole.”
The Sussexes made an appearance at Trooping the Colour the year following their wedding, but haven’t joined the Royal Family on the balcony since.
The following year, Meghan had a conflict, she was the guest of honor at a Night of Wonder at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles with Harry and Meghan missing the big event.
After that, the Sussexes made their big move to the US, and their invite to Trooping was most likely lost in the mail, or, never sent, as tensions were high.
The Sussexes were never invited back
Harry and Meghan resigned from their roles as senior working members of the royal family, and once they made it to the US, a safe distance from the Royal Family, they released a six-part Netflix tell-all series, followed by Harry’s tell-all memoir.
Harry is trying to make up with his father, King Charles, it’s being reported, so who knows, possibly we will see Harry on the balcony once again, possibly next summer for the King’s Birthday parade, but it appears Meghan’s absence on the balcony is permanent in that the British public will never forgive her.
