Even the Greeks didn’t manage to finesse us like that

  1. Thats not how tariffs work, and you dont need anyones agreement to implement them.

It is a tax on everything imported from the EU, that the importer in USA pays for. To cover this, he will raise prices on goods in USA, and European goods will be slightly less competitive since they will cost more to import. It will be paid for by:

    1. American consumers, 2. American consumers, 3. American consumers, 4. American businesses, 5. European businesses.

Implementing tariffs on American goods would have been *bad* for Europe. Its not a negotiation failure.

And no, we havent agreed to do any investments in any american goods. Not military, not oil, not anything else. It is a part of a global entertainment show where Trumps travels around the world and pretend he achieved trade deals.

To the degree EU “caved” it was that we played along during the press conference.

  2. For our case I see lots of people being in love with Greek yogurt in America (also Iceland’s Skyrr seems to be a success) so I don’t think tariffs will do much unless our allies get affected severely…tbh it feels like we (as in eu) are vassal to the us rn, I definitely think we fucked up the solidarity and unity spirit when our economic crisis was going strong but we would probably still not get as close to federal level to prevent today’s weakness. If anything apart from the uk leaving the union got tighter after each crisis

  3. Europe was already going to buy American weapons and energy. Shh, don’t tell Trump

  4. That’s a debacle but at least that’s the same amount of oil we “usually” buy and about the investments we only know how much is the investment, not who how and when the investment will take place if ever.

  5. As far as I understand, we did not legally agree to anything.
Bozo is just putting a 15% tariff and a show, but got nothing binding the EU or Member States.

  6. The EU has 0 authority to enforce this btw. Countries can literally just refuse to invest in the US which is probably what’s most likely to happen. This treaty is more symbolic than anything. The EU is not a country and does not actually control investment capital.

  7. Fun fact it’s non binding.

Basically nothing will happen and we will all laugh at the orange diapy man

  8. Opinion from a savage- As long as China is backing Russia in Ukraine, Europe and America are stronger together. I know this goes against ever fiber of European pride, but if the US and Europe could work together instead of constantly trying to take advantage of one another (yes, this is bilateral by the way), we would be absolutely unstoppable. China and Russia wouldn’t stand a chance. We just keep letting pride and greed get in the way. Two big factors in the decline of empires.

  9. Am I the only one, who noticed the black queen on a white square on the left side of the black king. No chess player was consulted in making this picture.

  10. Oh please…. we made empty promises to get a fixed rate of tarifs. It was not a 5d chess move, it was a “yeah sure donny why don’t sign this and go on a little victory tour at home, hey?” Moment.

We gave up absolutely nothing of substance and got a little bit more stability. I don’t know what hard to understand there.

  11. Here in Canada-the bastard child of Pierre and Barry-our Prime Minister is refusing to agree to some foreign policy decisions that Trump is pushing for and we’re being punished by 35% tariffs. The beauty of our situation is that we have a free trade treaty in place with US and Mexico that covers most goods and was signed by Trump himself. So while the 35% tariffs hurt, they are quite limited. The lesson for Trump: don’t challenge a professional economist who was governor of central banks in TWO G7 economies to a trade war.

  12. We grant Pedro Sánchez for this situation. He is capable of fooling the devil himself, and when he comes back to ask for explanations, he sells him out his own mother.

  13. add to that helping to elect a submissive idiot that call Trump “daddy”

  14. And then, rise the taxes to the European companies to pay the spend.

    EPP and PES Right now
