Vice President Vance addresses speculation on possible 2028 run for president
Vice President JD Vance has been floated as a potential contender for the presidency in 2028 since before he even took office. As Donald Trump’s vice president, Vance would seem to be one of the frontrunners for the nomination, which Trump confirmed earlier this week.On Friday, the Middletown, Ohio, native addressed that speculation on a possible 2028 run while speaking with reporters in the United Kingdom.“I think my view on the politics of 2028 is I’m not really focused on the election in 2026, much less one two years after that,” Vance said. “If we do a good job for the American people, the politics will take care of itself, so I’m going to try to do a good job for the American people.”In discussing Vance as the presumptive frontrunner to land the Republican nomination for the 2028 election, Trump also mentioned Secretary of State Marco Rubio as “somebody that maybe would get together with JD in some form” on a future ticket.“I think most likely, in all fairness, he’s the vice president,” Trump said when asked if Vance is the favorite for the nomination, according to The Associated Press. “I think Marco is also somebody that maybe would get together with JD in some form. … It’s too early obviously, to talk about it, but certainly he’s doing a great job and he would be, probably favored at this point.”Vance, 41, has quickly climbed the ladder in the Republican party. He was elected as an Ohio Senator in 2022, was selected as Trump’s running mate last July and became the third-youngest VP in U.S. history in November 2024.
