  1. Capitalism will win, the demand is there, you can slow it but you can’t stop it. It’s hilarious watching “deregulation” conservatives using every government overreach trick in the book to snarl it up, simply because they’re afraid of change and new money, or because they think it’s some “globalist” or “Chinese” plot. Something finally comes along to bring manufacturing jobs to these communities, and they just won’t have it. Mark my words, they will turn to the exact same frivolous environmental and public health lawsuits using the same exact same activist courts that they have spent decades railing against. It’s all an unprincipled con to secure a bribe.

With Trump standing in the way of progress, foreign markets are out performing the US and that is expected to accelerate. Trump is actively standing in the way of progress and putting the USA behind.   10. Meanwhile inside the industry, we’re looking at the demand numbers and delivery time and cost for new fossil generation and realizing that this is basically “old man yells at clouds”.

    Reality is about to slam into fantasy in more ways that one in the next 18 months.

  12. F’n idiot. Meanwhile… One of the biggest Missouri utilities just put in a 32% rate increase case. While demand has hovered around 1% over the last 20 years, the new data center craze is pushing that up closer to 10% over the next 10 years. What could go wrong?

  14. Can any Trump voters in this sub explain how blocking renewables makes sense? Wouldn’t companies wanna diversify and stay on top of the market instead of let it slide to competition in this sector?

  15. I had a small solar array on my last house, combined with some energy efficient appliances and additional insulation, they covered up to 30% of my energy needs. It was great, a hedge against utility price increases. I miss having them and I hope to find a way to do something similar with my current house.

  25. Many people are commenting about how this will screw over ordinary Americans on energy prices. Absolutely!

    Some have pointed out that there is an even more pernicious long term effect that will make the energy prices seem like peanuts. Green energy is already a growth industry and will become vastly more so in the future. America should have had a leading position because much of the technology was developed here. Instead, we are throwing away our lead. We will be consumers and depend on Europe and China. Vast lost economic opportunity and economic leverage.

    People who believe that this is good for our economy and that we’ve had “the most successful six months in America’s history” are, well, you know what I’m thinking.

  33. This is more sinister than you think. To kill a power grid you take out power plants which FEMA can do with a call. To take down wind turbines or solar installation you have to destroy them.

    Every action trump has done with electricity in mind has made the grids weaker and more centralized. This is bad because then they are easy to turn off remotely. Send a power spike down lines to take out controls, then simply shut down power plants and you effectively stop America. Most cell towers have backup power on site but could be damaged by large power spikes as a lot of them have reduced the amount of protection they use to insulate themselves from grid issues.

  36. If we just had a European Commission with a spine we would finally introduce Carbon-based tariff systems:

    Every import is put under tariffs according to the emissions that were used to create it: the top 20% least emissions of of all similar products in a category get a reduction in tariffs while the 20% most dirty produced products of the same category get an extra tariff on top.

    Then you fools in the US just watch what happens.

    But unfortunately we don’t have politicians that have the spine so do what’s right here in Europe, we just have such that cuddle with the insane dictator in the US.

  37. There’s a silver lining for the other 96% of the world. Renewable energy becomes cheaper elsewhere. There’s certainly no lack of volume and innovation globally; it’s just getting focused in the rational countries. It’s also bringing to light the extraordinary power of big-lie politics, and waking up voters in every democracy about how stupid it can get
