She challenged the suspect and he ‘put his hands around her neck’

An Iceland shopper was ‘strangled’ after bravely confronting a suspected thief in a Midlands store.

According to police, a man was spotted putting items into his backpack by a female customer.

She has challenged him but he then ‘put his hands around her neck and strangled her’.

The man threatened to ‘kill her’ if she got in his way, Nottinghamshire Police said.

Officers believe the man then fled the store with another male, taking £70 worth of laundry products with him.

The incident took place at the Iceland store in Southchurch Drive, Clifton, just before 1pm on Thursday, July 31.

Police have now released images of two men they want to speak to in connection with the investigation.

Sergeant Scott Loughran, who is investigating the incident, said: “This was an appalling attack on two female members of the public who challenged a man stealing from the store.

“This behaviour is completely unacceptable, and we are determined to ensure they are caught and put before the courts.

“We are calling on the public to help us identify two individuals that could help us with our investigation.

“Do you know the men pictured? Are you the men pictured? Please get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
