Over 11,000 hectares engulfed in southern France wildfire • FRANCE 24 English

It’s one of the biggest fires in France so far this summer. A blaze in Ud in the south of the country broke out on Tuesday afternoon and strong winds that are typical of the region caused it to spread at an unexpected speed. The fires everywhere. It’s a disaster. All the vineyards are burning. Four or five houses have burned down here. Firefighters are doing everything they can. Even one of their lries partly burnt. Residents in villages close to the city of Kakason are evacuating their homes as are holiday makers on camping sites. The main motorway that links France to Spain has been cut off and a thousand firefighters, many of whom have traveled from other regions, are trying to stop the blaze. I wasn’t able to collect my belongings. When I left, the flames were just outside my home. The area is one of the driest in the region, and temperatures are expected to continue to rise across France over the coming days.

A massive wildfire broke out in the Aude department in southern France on Tuesday, engulfing homes and injuring at least nine people, including one critically, as it spread across 11,000 hectares.

  3. Even if vineyards survive the fire, the crop will be ruined by “Smoke Taint”.

    Very sad for these people, the many impacts of climate change are destroying our lives.

  4. Just wait to get your tariff letter from the U.S. for smoke ruining there summer if it blows across the pound , like they did to Canada , after Canada helped them put theres out .

    Hope it can be contained soon, knowing how powerful Mistral winds are these days I fear this will keep spreading.
