The commodification of creative writing has been a huge part of it, too, it feels like
Hollywood has always been about money.
I’ve watched 13 movies in cinemas since Jan, almost half are forgettable. The movies that stood out were MI, F1, Superman, Sinners, and Phoenician scheme.
The quality is there but it’s not consistent
Yeah that seems to be death of every industry. I make teeth for a living and the “money guys” in my industry are just absolute monsters
welcome to modern media. games have to same problem.
Says the guy who made rush hour 3
Jackie knows what hes talking about. He hasn’t been in a successful movie in years. CCP approved movies are dog shit.
It’s the enshitification of everything
Late stage capitalism. The squeeze continues
Wealth inequality at its worst so far
Part of my job is related to marketing in entertainment. So, I know making money is important, and it’s a critical part of the industry. But I agree studios are too focused on that. That’s a common problem, not only for film studios.
In the last few years, I’ve been much more attracted to Broadway than Hollywood. Sure, money is still a major focus, and Broadway had one of the best years in history. But it’s much more than money.
The emotional impact of Hadestown, the magic of seeing the Delorean flying, the nice surprise of seeing Attack on Titan, or the outrageous presentation of Stranger Things on Broadway attract money for sure, but being entertaining is still very important.
Meeting the cast while stage dooring is a big example to me of doing something not for money. Even if or when the producers are focused on money, many artists are focused on art and engaging with the audience.
I moved out of the US recently, so I won’t be able to see Broadway that much anymore. And I know most people can’t go to Broadway.
But I think theater could start influencing films in a good way again. Or at least have some integration, like Maybe Happy Ending that basically seems like a K-drama on Broadway, and won the award as best musical. To have a better balance between money and entertainment.
He’s not wrong! Marvel are to blame for a lot of what’s happening now. Movies aren’t about risk now. It’s big money or no money.
