No, of course Kokoomus is sitting on its hands. It has so much influence over their absolute wish to see a "two party state" (which is going so well now, isn't it?) that surely while other nations are actively taking measures to recognize Palestine as a nation, this party is going look to Finland and see that the two party state is a worthy goal.

Kokoomus and Persut are equally delusional and embarrassing.

  1. European solidarity in sucking dicks of genocidal nation is disgusting. Like it is not 50-100 years ago. It is happening today. Literal ethnic cleansing and now openly stated invasion.

    0 difference from Russia.

  2. He needs the ”tunnin juna” built and don’t want to stir the pot too much

  3. As long as large percentile of them support hamas they don’t deserve any recognition. First they must stop fighting and accept that the state of Israel will not cease to exist and they must forget the “from the river to the sea” mindset. It’s amusing how people demand western countries to recognize something that many palestinians themselves don’t support, they want to control the whole Israel and they have in past refused proposals for anything less than that.

  4. Why should we? There is clearly no state to recognise.

  5. From realpolitik perspective it makes sense.

Finland doesn’t gain anything from recognising Palestinian state, but risks vital defence system and possible anger of the superpower by doing so.

Palestinians don’t gain anything from Finnish recognition, and doesn’t lose anything if Finland doesn’t recognise the state.

PM Orpo doesn’t want to risk his coalition government by going forth with the recognition since PS and KD would possibly end the coalition government if Finland recognises Palestinian state.

All in all, IMHO, Finland should have recognised Palestinian state back in the Halonen-Tuomioja era of political naïveté.

  6. Once again: thank you everyone for voting these assholes. I hope weakened worker’s rights, higher unemployment and lowered social security are gonna fuck you up for deciding to put these people in charge of things. Gonna be great when it’s over – IF it’s gonna be over, and whoever comes next is gonna have to clean up the mess they made. I doubt they will though. All the benefits for the wealthy and cuts to the poor rarely get “taken back”.

  7. The people in the comments defending Israel makes me embarrassed to be a Finn lmao.

  8. The right call. Palestine is not a country and should not be as long as it is ruled by terrorists.

  9. Let’s all boycott Finland now! Also, let’s all forget about who have committed all the horrible terrorist acts in human history.

  10. So they found some sense, good stuff we shouldn’t be recognising them as long as Hamas is still around.

  11. Wtf is wrong with you people? Not recognizing a goddamn genocide just in case we need help from the USA, a country that clearly would sell us out to Putin in a blink of an eye.

Trump has made it clear that he wants Ukraine to give in their land. Why the fuck we would ever count with the USA to help in case we need.

  12. Do the rest of the Nordic countries recognize Palestine? I’m pretty certain Norway and Sweden do at least.

  13. Currently it seems to me that this is the correct choice not only due to realpolitik but also because of ethical reasons. Israel is not free of problems but in the context of Near East, they’re obviously the most modern democracy and their enemies are obviously less good.

I find it quite disturbing how easily people in Finland and EU in general have been affected by pro-Palestine propaganda. And more disturbing how neatly this crisis played into Russia’s hand: Ukraine has become an entirely secondary war for a lot of people after October 7 even though its importance hasn’t changed at all.

  14. Good for finland that they have wise people in power who don’t cater the street mob.
