  25. By arming Ukraine, we exposed Russia as a third rate military power and have essentially neutered further ambitions in the near term. Nevertheless Ukraine is not getting that land back for the foreseeable future, so some kind of agreement should try to be reached that ends this killing.

  27. What are the chances that the fix is already in and Trump will side with Putin at this summit? All of the sudden it will be in “everyone’s” best interest to suspend the fighting and just let Russia keep the territory they have taken. Putin can’t take a loss. Trump can be bought. I don’t think this is going to go well.

    – Trump threats Russia with big words and empty sanctions
    – Reassures Ukraine of its support
    – Goes to talk to Putin as an ambassador of peace
    – Comes back with a « deal » which sells Ukraine out
    – Ukraine and EU tell him to fuck off
    – Rinse and repeat in a few weeks

  30. Russia’s prerequisites for the ceasefire was for Ukraine to take their troops out of an area that Russia was having a lot of trouble conquering

  35. This is framing. The only way to influence trump is via money and ego/public image. Russia has trump under their thumb but it’s possible to encourage trump to be a petulant lover of Putin’s. So Ukraine frames the narrative optimally for that outcome.
