Bill and Hillary Clinton subpoenaed in Epstein probe • FRANCE 24 English

Bill and Hillary Clinton are back in the spotlight with once again the Republicans to thank for. The United States House Oversight Committee, which is controlled by the Republicans, has summoned the couple with subpoenas. Also issued for eight other former officials. The former president will be questioned on the 14th of October, 5 days after the former Secretary of State will have testified. Bill Clinton was one of many to be acquainted with Jeffrey Epstein. According to the Wall Street Journal, he left the following message under the friends section of a birthday book to the former sex offender and trafficker. It’s reassuring, isn’t it, to have lasted as long across all the years of learning and knowing, adventures, and also to have your childlike curiosity, the drive to make a difference, and the solace of friends. However, despite two attempts in the past, no former US president has ever testified to Congress following a subpoena. Bill Clinton has denied having any knowledge of Epstein’s crimes. And Donald Trump also left a message in the book, but has tried to brush the case under the carpet. When asked whether the Justice Department will release files about the former sex offender, he claims that nobody cares about Epstein. The committee has now issued a subpoena for their release. And faced with growing pressure, the administration is debating whether to release a transcript of an interview with Epstein’s associates, Gileain Maxwell, who’s serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking. Voters and lawmakers from across the political sphere are demanding clarity over the investigation, and frustration is growing among some in the president’s own camp over Trump’s failure to deliver on his campaign promise to open the files.

The Republican-controlled US House Oversight Committee on Tuesday issued subpoenas for former US President Bill Clinton and his wife, former US Foreign Secretary Hillary Clinton, as part of a probe into the crimes of deceased sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. The summons follows the discovery that Bill Clinton, like current President Donald Trump, had reportedly left a note in a recently unearthed birthday book dedicated to the disgraced financier.

  1. Trump is the most scrutinized individual in America. If they had any crumb of suspicion, it would have been long ago exposed. The tone of the content is petty and unprofessional. Common for our times.

  2. As a Democrat from and in the USA, I can comment that most US Democrats don't mind that ALL offenders be exposed.

We also want to point out that while Clinton was President, all the news that had been revealed was that his past and (then) present affairs were with consenting adult women. We are not Voting for the Clintons. We DO have a President in the White House right now who stands very, very credibly accused of sexual assault on minors below the age of consent. That matters.
