  1. We’ve seen what his worth, no offers if millio6from any other broadcaster, no harm bring him back at what his worth, minimum wage would be too much for him in my opinion

  2. A lot of hacks have made copy running with some variation of this story for the past few years. Niamh Horan this time, but Fionnan Sheehan is usually the man behind the story.

Think the donkey has been worked to death at this stage

  3. I’d leave my job if he returned to RTE. I don’t even work there.

  4. Tubs is dying in the UK. Virgin Media simply hasn’t the money, TG4 wouldn’t want him, and RTÉ should stay WELL wide of him.

TodayFM or Newstalk are his likeliest radio options, and I could really see him take an Indo column and begin a career as a “centre-right” contrarian-for-hire.

  5. Took paycut after paycut after paycut over in the UK to keep his job because nobody was interested in him.

Why in the name of God would RTE want him back for any reason other than looking after their own

  6. His U.K. career failed to take off, now he’s paid his penance and wants to board the gravy train once again.

  7. This is all part of the rehabilitation plan, if he was truely sorry he would of repaid it without having his agent and pr leak the story. Establishment Ireland looking after its own

  8. Well at least he hasn’t lost his boner for daul Rose of Tralee.

  9. The argument for paying the talent exorbitant sums at RTE was always that they would just leave and earn similar somewhere else. At least now we know it’s bullshit.

If he comes back (not that I think he should), it better not be for crazy money. Give him a PAYE salary and make him put in 40hrs a week for it.

  10. He could become a right wing grifer and blame “cancel culture” and “mainstream media” on why he got defenestrated from RTÉ.

  11. Pay him through a media training FÁS scheme, publish his weekly pittance. Never let him forget his true worth.

Those are my terms to allow him back in the Irish media.

  12. > They added that “the listenership in his old RTÉ Radio 1 slot has grown since Oliver Callan took over, so the audience don’t seem bothered he’s gone”.

Yep, not surprised by this. I always switched over when he was on & now happily listen to Callan.

  13. The staff should suck it up, my children haven’t stopped hounding me since “The Toy man” was removed from RTE.

    /s

  14. RTE should know their place on this and other issues. If they are stupid and insulated enough to think this is a good idea, they should do polling to see if the population agrees with them.

  15. I don’t want to see him back. No way. I definitely think he paid that money back with an ulterior motive. Maybe planning to try his luck in the presidential election?

  16. “Rte Staff” would want to start sucking up to reality a chunk of them should be gone by this stage and if the remainder don’t start working their arses off like everyone else in that industry not another cent should be paid to that public sector basket case. What ever happened to all the reform we were promised for the extra 3/4 billion pumped into that chess pit?

  17. Sorry. RTE staff don’t have a rebelious streak in their bodies. They are all a bunch of pussies. If Tubs came back they would shut up and put up.

  18. Thankfully my intake of anything RTE is incredibly low so this won’t affect me. Thank fuck for Internet radio, Spotify, podcasts and audio books.

  19. They’re threatening me about my license the bastards. Guy in a post office uniform called to the door.

  20. RTE have already brought back a number of dodgy characters since the whole mess so taking back Tubridy is the last fuck you to everyone

  21. I wonder how much he actually did. Like did he pick the guests, research them, create the questions or was he just provided all that stuff and then just sat infont if the guest and read the questions from a sheet.

  22. The Tubridy monologue did not go down well in the UK I expect. Maybe Ryan should try China, or Russia. Both operate an English language propaganda service and might like an Irish voice in the mix.
