  1. This is fantastic news. I do love the PCC although, from a pretentious cineaste POV, I selfishly wish they had a bit more variety. (I’m still a regular patron).

I hope the new site is wheelchair accessible! A few friends of mine would love to go to the Leicester Square one but can’t.

  2. Exciting news! A second venue could really bring more variety to the area.

  3. That’s awesome, I’ve always thought it was way too limiting to have just 1 PCC for all of Ldn

  4. >“Given what’s happened this year, I understand how it could look like we’re trying to shift operations but that’s not what’s happening,” said Paul Vickery, the cinema’s head of programming.

Yeah sure. What the original location has at the moment is a stay of execution, not a legally-assured long term tenancy. The way these things tend to go, the landlord will find some way to chuck them out in the next few years. Having a second location will enable them to retain most staff and continue supplier relationships without a bump. It will also weaken the PCC’s negotiating position but I guess they’re now resigned to losing the original location at some point.

It’s much smarter to be looking in East London than the West End. They will lose some tourist custom, but my guess is that a lot of their dedicated customer base live in East London. Somewhere with good transport connections like Stratford or Dalston is ideal.

  5. Is the original Stratford Picturehouse taken? They can go to there

  6. Its good its expanding but East London is not my vibe haha Maybe they should have looked at South West. Wandsworth or Wimbledon etc

  7. This is fine, in theory, but unless they also plan to expand a second Chinatown location in Stratford too, my “trip to the cinema and then eat loads of dumplings” tradition is going to wither away.
