Lithuania having a worser view when compared to Poland and India is surprising.
this is a better human development indicator than HDI
Of all the more homophobic countries, South Korea stands out as being both not very religious and a democracy. Why is homosexuality so taboo there?
Whoa, hats off to Japan for that massive improvement. Nigeria though **☠️**
Other than Nigeria, apparently, where they have actually increased
Give it a minute. The right wing swing is sadly just getting started.
The disparity between Japan and South Korea is shocking. Damn.
Japan realized that all genitals look the same when they’re blurred out.
Crazy how views are much better in traditional Japan compared to USA.
China and Korea are SUPER homophobic. Had absolutely nfi….
Whats being openly homosexual in China like?
Would be nice to have more of Africa shown to better contextualize Nigeria.
Really makes you appreciate Canada more compared to the US.
Me, an european, passing the halfway point of the chart: oh, I guess my unimportant country wasn’t included in the chart.
Me reaching the last positions, between Russia and China: oh no. No no no
This number is btw not telling how many people how homophobic views. A person can easily have many homophobic views without necessary agreeing that “Homosexuality can never or rarely be justified”. So even though the trend is going in a positive direction, it doesn’t mean that e.g. only 7% of people in Denmark are homophobes.
Which apparently makes those opposed even wilder and more hateful the more they fall into the minority.
Once again, I searched after Belgium in vain 😂 maybe a lack of data
The decrease in Japan is amazing.
Interesting that south korea performed so much worse considering their I’d say rather similar conditions (industrialized nation, geographical proximity, US influence)
I know that korea also has a huge problem with misogyny so I can’t say it comes as a surprise but does anyone have a concrete explanation why that is?
“homosexuality can never or rarely be justified” like I need a reason 😂
Heartening to see, but still a long way to go, and sadly I fear we are seeing things creep backwards in the West.
I’d like to see Ireland on this. During the ’70s and ’80s I’ve heard it was basically Handmaid’s Tale, at least on this issue. And now Dublin is being advertised as a gay mecca
Japan had some kind of awakening I see
Really curious about Jamaica
I would like to see the stats for other African nations, not just Nigeria (and the Middle East, too). Since that’s pretty much the only region in the world where the population is still growing, a larger share of the world’s population is going to feel the way people feel there.
Japans turnaround is crazy. Well done.
And seriously, my country, US…be better.
Great improvement. Still pretty depressing.
40% in chile is kind of ehhh…. how is it in Santiago?
It’s gone down but sad it’s still at 7% (Denmark)
11% Canada? come on, we can do better than that.
Can we see how its changed over the last 5-10 years though?
Nigeria dug it’s heels in lmao
Netherlands 21% in 1993 definitely didn’t apply to the bible belt area where I grew up.
My best friend growing up was gay and everyone in his environment told him he wasn’t acceptable. His parents, sisters, and teachers all told him he needed to find a way to change if he didn’t want to be hated by society.
He was one of, if not the, smartest kid in class. Last time I heard about him he’s been going in and out of therapy dealing with depression, has a bit of a shitty job not reflecting his academic potential, and generally is not having a nice life. His family ended up seeing the errors of their way and tried to make amends, arguing that they were only looking out for him, but imo a destroyed childhood is a destroyed childhood.
I’m positive its even lower in most countries among the younger generations (excluding of course the usual suspects).
It’s always so interesting to me how different Japan is compared to the countries nearby. They really were westernized.
Spain being in a worse position than Japan makes me wonder about how it was collected
It’s the fall of religion.
“Be justified”? What is there to justify?
I wonder why. It know it can be many things, I just want correlation data overlaid
Nigeria has some work to do at that rate
Also America being the “greatest country in the world” as usual
What the hell South Korea?
Great now show 2025 numbers
Increased homophobia in Nigerian, reflecting efforts by US missionaries to promote their hatreds elsewhere. They have been ably supported by certain US administrations.
