Thanks for your interest on what’s going on in England. Before we can tell you, you’ll need to send us a scan of your ID that proves you are 18+. Don’t worry, we won’t let hackers get a hold of it. We swear.
Just a lot of people being upset that they have to prove they are over 18 to watch whatever fetish porn they are into and are worried about being exposed if there ever was a data leak. Instead of just using a VPN and bypassing the age verification checks.
Do you mean England or Britain?
Well, yesterday I went for a hike with my wife and saw some dog walkers, and then we went to the pub for a roast. There were quite a few other people there too, and it was sunny so everyone was a bit pissed.
After that, I went for a nap and a shower, then we went out for dinner and got chatting to the waiter, Steve, who was a very enthusiastic Oldham Athletic fan and a lovely chap. I had mussels and my wife had seafood tagliatelle. We shared a bottle of pinot grigio.
The Cricket finished (I went to the last Test and sat next to a local couple from Kennington, and some Indian guys who had just moved here, and we all had Bhajis and pints in the lunch break, they were good) and the football’s back! (Forgot to ask Steve how Oldham got on, sorry Steve)
The weather’s great, not sure it’ll hold for the bank holiday, but if it does, I’ll probably invite the new next door neighbour over for a BBQ.
That’s about it really from my end.
We’re all good mate, thanks for asking.
As far as we know, our leader isn’t suspected sleeping with young girls, he’s not trying to dismantle our judicial system or override the checks and balances, and if you get sick we’ve still got comprehensive medical care for everyone, regardless of any insurance.
And as for the free speech thing; he’s not extorting universities, media or legal firms to make them fall in line.
Overall we’re not perfect but comparatively still a great place to live 👍🏻
Currently debating why Yankers are so obsessed by masturbating.
Can’t imagine what they’re trying to deflect from…?
“every gram of freedom and privacy”?
No idea what this is about. Trolling I guess.
They’re next? it’ already there, age verification originated there, this is what’s wild about Americans while they sit on the internet telling anyone dumb enough to listen how terrible this UK age verification thing is, all the while it was implemented in Texas and Ohio long before it came to the UK.
If it’s shit for humanity and doesn’t have any beneficial qualities it’s American !
Next? Some American states had the online safety act in legislation before we did here in the UK. Florida for example.
I’m getting sick of this. We are just trying to prevent children from growing up doomscrolling through porn, violence and gore. So that perhaps they can spend the time with friends, developing social skills, understanding the people around them and developing healthy natural attitudes to sex and relationships.
Most of all we are trying to stop them turning into the sex obsessed or violence obsessed deeply unhappy kids like we encounter every day on American social media. Perhaps the Americans should try it. Or is that too big an encroachment on their blessed “freedom”.
This whole “give me convenience or give me death,” angle, especially the privacy thing, it’s just lazy.
Have you ever tried going out in public as an anonymous person?
The “life hack” here is not using the internet to get your boobies, music, or information.
Libraries exist. Book stores are real. “Adult book stores,” are also real. Record stores = real.
It’s super cool because no one cares who you are. A lot of the store clerks could also give two shits about who you are and what you’re up to.
Apparently, the hard part is “leaving the house.”
That’s still legal for now, right? At least until the next pandemic…
Better stock up on your boobies and rap music now! And support a local business while you’re at it!
I’ve got to go to work in half an hour 🙁
Coincidentally, I have just finished watching an Evan Edinger video about this. Ok towards the end on the video he goes full on to promote vpns but he also raised an interesting point.
(which actually circles back to something I said on the twit app, there I said we should organise a mass isp subscription cancellation, as even the threat of losing that much revenue, would make the giants put pressure on the government to drop this act).
But it turns out we don’t even need to go **that** far. If his description is accurate on how vpns work, then the seeds to this act’s downfall may have already been sewn. Your home nation’s advertisers need you to not use a vpn because they can’t target you with their ads, thus hurting the home nations’s ad revenue.
>knowing they are next
Did the last 8 months not happen or what?
America was first in one thing, voting in fascists.
As far as I can tell Americans can say what they want on Twitter. No?
Haven’t some states in America had age verification for a few years now?
They’re probably referring to the “online safety” act where our government are using safety as a guide to clamp down on internet anonymity in pursuit of control — coupled with the police are wasting a hell of a lot of time policing Facebook rather than actual crimes.
As has always been the case, incredibly rich and powerful Americans have persuaded our government that the future of the UK lies in making these same Americans even richer.
This time around it’s by adopting their (US Big Tech) data scraping technology which will result in the loss of hundreds of thousands of UK jobs, lead to water shortages and out of control CO2 emissions, eradicate the last remnants of our privacy, and eventually the destruction of practically the only thing left that the world admires us for: our hugely lucrative creative industries.
im good, just using a vnc and life is back to normal
This isn’t just England, its the whole world. UK, USA, AUS, NZ and EUR. All implementing new laws that require age verification, when viewing ‘age restricted content’ on the internet. Just think about that for a minute.
Every gram of privacy… probably not
This is such bad attempt at propaganda ~ everything’s ok here.
I wouldn’t know, currently in switzerland. always travel there to look at 18+ material
Well we’re doing the back to school shopping soon, so we’re mostly thinking about PE kits and the specific type of football boots for the special pitch the school has.
I’m not thinking about bullet proofing the school bag though which is nice.
The Americans still think they got their freedom? While a lot of them are literally being kidnapped off the streets and put into camps? Ok buddy
The government is trying to keep kids from seeing harmful content online not all parents are tech savvy.I don’t see that as a bad thing also at least women here have the right to police their own sexual health without the government stepping in.I don’t have to worry about being shot when I leave the house my granddaughters are pretty safe in school and don’t have to pledge allegiance to a flag.If I need medical assistance I don’t need a gofund me account to pay for it plus keep our jobs.We get ok maternity leave plus holiday entitlement in jobs I’d rather live here than the US that’s a definite.
Privacy is still better here, despite the OSA – we have GDPR, and rights against Palantir scooping up data from government. But we have to keep campaigning to defend it, it’s under constant attack.
Have to scan your face before having a wank
Watched an old lady feed a pigeon at the train station. I was Uber frustrated until I watched her getting swarmed by them, and she had to flee. I feel bad for laughing, but who feeds pigeons at a train station?
The United Kingdom of Great England and Northern England
We’re actually fine, thanks. We supposedly have to take a picture of our face to access some filth but it’s trivial to bypass. The ‘jailed for a tweet’ people were all inciting violence – I’m cool with them getting locked up for that.
Importantly we don’t have a nonce in charge of the country who’s put a yes-man in charge of the countries largest law enforcement group and stuffed the courts with his mates. We also don’t have someone who doesn’t believe in germs in charge of the countries healthcare. That kind of makes me laugh every time I think of it but I feel bad because it must be shitty to actually have to deal with it.
We do, unfortunately, have the same wanky click bait media as everywhere else in the world. They currently seem focussed on telling us the world is ending and it’s all Labours fault.
It’s going to be a sunny day. I’m about to go our for breakfast with my kids then go scooting. Good luck my dudes, don;t get shot or deported.
Americans crying because Europe and the UK have had enough of their unregulated advertising platforms masquerading as so-called social media.
They don’t care what dangerous shit they pump out, as long as you don’t stop watching…
A friend of mine got stopped at the American border and detained because of a tweet he’d made 2 years prior. Wouldn’t get that in the UK.
They’re getting kidnapped off the street and still aren’t using all those guns, I don’t think the yanks can say anything. I thought the guns were to fight back against tyrannical governments? That’s what they told me when arguing pro-gun.
next? americans are the least free of us all, only their indoctrination shields the truth
Hang on
Wasn’t BREXIT going to provide us with more Freedoms?
They also promised secure border’s
Massive censorship of the internet under the guise of protecting children, protesters arrested yet neo Nazis are free to salute in the streets, economy is fucked after both COVID and leaving the EU, global warming is giving us worse heatwaves in a country with hardly any AC and insolated housing, housing crises caused by landlords buying up house cheap that sit empty, and the papers and news blame it all on immigration, and the rise of fascism if reform gets in. We are kinda fucked
Americans love to shout ” wow, look over there!” At another country doing a fraction of the erosion of basic human freedoms their fascist dictatorship in waiting is doing
I’ve not noticed any difference… not sure what all the fuss it about.
Personally, i don’t see the big deal about age verification. What is the drama about?
Are we seriously under the impression that our privacy wasn’t already completely gone in all of the five eyes countries? Did we learn nothing from Edward Snowden’s leaks?
It started when everyone cheered for just stop oil, who were peacefully protesting, getting 2 years in prison.
Nobody likes looking at the big picture until porn is taken away.
Yeah I’d rather have my porn taken away than live in an aspiring dictators regime, when Starmer starts talking about invading Scotland or Wales I’ll start to worry
Anyone who thinks the UK is worse of than the US right now, needs to give their head a wobble and change their news channels
Lots of people saying oh actually it’s the other way round. Well yes, factually that’s correct but we’re arresting blind people on terrorism charges for holding a sign, it’s not exactly looking peachy
Most of the age verification shit doesn’t even have the decency to fucking *work*. Discord perpetually loads and BSky verified one account but refuses to do the others because of “too many attempts”
