Fighting plastic pollution: UN’s landmark treaty in the making • FRANCE 24 English
Choose tap water rather than bottled. Cook at home. And when reheating food in the microwave, don’t do it in a plastic container. Everyday routines that can reduce our exposure to microlastics that some Parisians have begun to adopt. When I buy milk or whatever and I have a choice, I go for a cardboard container rather than a plastic one. I drink tap water, so generally I carry a reusable water bottle. You have to be careful and it can get tiring, but it’s got to be done. Microlastics are tiny particles that come from the breaking down of plastics which accumulate in and contaminate nature and make their way into our bodies. Scientists recommend choosing plastic-free cleaning products and cosmetics not always an easy thing to check on a label. They also advise airrating rooms regularly to avoid inhaling particles because they’ve also been found in our lungs. We eat, breathe, and drink microplastics potentially with serious consequences to our health, fertility problems in both men and women, cardiovascular problems, metabolic diseases, cancer, a slow, ubiquitous poison. Scientists say we could be ingesting up to 68,000 particles of plastic per day.
The UN Environment Programme is hosting a conference in Geneva with the aim of building a landmark treaty to combat plastic pollution. Scientists explain that microplastics have been found on the highest mountain peaks, in the deepest ocean trenches, and even in the human body. Emerald Maxwell takes a closer look at how we can protect ourselves from microplastics.

We should dump anything based off oil, including plastic. We need time which we don't have. We still need to be careful with our choices.
