Here’s the text of 2A: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The founders knew there was always a risk the United States could once again find itself under the control of a despotic tyrant, so they built in the right for Americans to defend ourselves against it. We are in that situation now. This is the exact reason the second amendment was enshrined in the constitution, to topple an illegitimate government seeking to destroy our rights and protections. With the Trump administration ignoring laws (such as habeus corpus) and the right to due process that are deeply enshrined in the American legal system, we are at exactly the juncture the founders sought to protect us from when they drafted 2A into the US Constitution.
