SAN ANGELO, Texas — The rumbles aren’t quite as loud as a rocket launch, but there’s buzz around a Tuesday evening meeting at the Concho Valley Council of Governments’ (CVCOG) training center.
At the meeting, CVCOG officials will deliver a presentation aimed at answering questions the public may have about how the space industry could impact the region. In January, the organization received a $500,000 grant from the Texas Space Commission to conduct a feasibility study- finding out whether the Concho Valley could and wants to support space tech. The commission has reported sending out roughly $126 million to organizations across Texas, but San Angelo is one of few communities included in the awards that doesn’t already have an established presence in the industry.
The Concho Valley Technology Alliance (CVTA), which is partnering with the CVCOG for the presentation, expects a larger turnout than it has for similar town hall-style events.
In July, the City of Midland received a $5 million grant through the Space Exploration and Aeronautics Research Fund (SEARF).
