Stadler has received an order from Lokaltog A/S for an additional ten battery-powered FLIRT Akku trains, fulfilling an option included in a contract first signed in October 2024.
The vehicles are set to begin operation in the first half of 2029, and will replace the IC2 vehicles currently in use on Lokaltog’s regional routes in Region Zealand.

The new vehicles will join Lokaltog’s modern fleet in 2029

Lars Wrist-Elkjær, CEO of Lokaltog, said:
I am very pleased with the decision of Region Zealand’s on the purchase of additional trains. The battery trains are of great importance to Lokaltog’s contribution to the green transition, and at the same time we can ensure stronger robustness in our operations.
Stadler’s FLIRT Akku trains are capable of operating up to 100 kilometres on battery power alone, and can recharge automatically under overhead lines or through regenerative braking. A FLIRT Akku train previously set a Guinness World Record by travelling 224 kilometres on a single battery charge in 2021.
The units are designed to comply with European TSI PRM standards, and feature low-floor entrances, wide doors and automatic gap bridges.
Each vehicle is fitted with a number of dedicated spaces for wheelchairs and bicycles, a semi-automatic boarding ramp for wheelchair users, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, passenger information screens and a universal toilet.
Radosław Banach, CEO of Stadler Polska plant in Siedlce, said:
With this additional order, we will deliver a total of 24 modern, emission-free FLIRT Akku, a proven solution that provides zero-emission operations without compromising reliability or passenger comfort.
We are proud to continue our partnership with Lokaltog and to support their efforts toward green, future mobility.
