The Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) pre-conference – taking place on September 2 ahead of the main conference agenda – will feature a series of technical workshops offering insight into the state-of-play of Angola’s oil and gas value chain. Covering topics such as shallow and onshore exploration, enhancing inspection and innovative technology, supervision and quality control and mid- and downstream infrastructure, the pre-conference address pressing challenges and opportunities.

During the pre-conference, Nigerian independent exploration and production company FIRST E&P is leading a workshop on Unlocking Value in the Shallow Water: From Exploration Success to Cluster-Based Development in Nigeria’s Shallow Waters. The session will explore how the company has unlocked value from marginal and undeveloped assets, highlighting how its evolving cluster-based approach to integrated oil and gas exploitation is designed to lower unit development and operating costs while accelerating value realization. Segun Owolabi, General Manager: Exploration and Development at FIRST E&P is leading the session.

Oil and gas company Corcel will lead a discussion on Angola’s onshore market. Titled Advancing Onshore Kwanza Basin Pre-Salt Exploration – KON-16 Case Study, the session will provide an overview of the history and geology of this strategic basin. With a focus on legacy and newly-acquired subsurface data – collected to advance exploration efforts in the basin – the session will offer insight into the value of integrating subsurface data of different vintages, how 2D seismic data differs from 1970-2010 vintages, how legacy wells can support onshore exploration efforts and the results of the 2024 eFTG acquisition in the basin. Richard Lane, COO of Corcel will lead the session.

Meanwhile, downstream consultancy firm CITAC will host a workshop on Mid and Downstream Infrastructure Requirements and Developments in Sub-Saharan Africa. Led by the organization’s Executive Director Elitsa Georgieva, the session will unpack the current infrastructure challenges in meeting Africa’s surging energy demand. The workshop will detail key recommendations for a robust and future-proof supply chain, categorized under regulation, pricing, infrastructure and environmental and social factors.

Energy major ExxonMobil will lead a session on Enhancing Inspections via Innovative Technology, offering insight into how the latest technologies can be deployed to revolutionize inspection processes across the oil and gas industry. Led by Vera Veloso, Integrity Engineering Supervisor, ExxonMobil, the workshop will delve into the role technology plays in improving safety, reducing costs, streamlining operations and enhancing data management.

Additionally, Grildo José Francisco, Director of Oil, Gas & Biofuel Projects at Copia Group of Companies is leading a workshop on The Importance of Supervision and Quality Control in the Exploration and Development of Onshore Blocks. With companies gearing up to advance exploration activities across the onshore Kwanza and Congo basins, the session will explore how inspection and supervision is fundamental to ensuring that all stages of a project are carried out efficiently, safely and in an environmentally responsible manner.
