Sea slime has been seen at St Paul’s Bay close to San Ġeraldu street by bathers in the area earlier today.
Archbishop Charles Scicluna slammed corporate greed in a post on X for the same issue in St Paul’s Bay after a popular swimming spot was left covered in oily slime.
“The sea is horribly slimy this morning at Sirens bathing zone in Malta’s St Paul’s Bay due to a sticky, oily substance which seems to originate from fish farms. Another sad instance in our country of the many paying for the enrichment of the few,” Scicluna wrote.
Sea sludge was regularly spotted over a number of years until it reached dramatic levels. Authorities issued fines and enforcements orders against operators at the forefront of these actions.
Lovin Malta has contacted the Environmental Health Directorate regarding the issue.
