Amazing! I grew up in Lincolnshire, staring at those towers across the valley!
Perfect place for an on shore wind farm right?
That was so cool… tower.
Was gonna say it would be better if it wasn’t a picture then I ate those words.
As much as I’m quite a staunch environmentalist and like the fact we no longer use coal, it is a shame to see these stations go.
Newer power stations are much smaller and have no need for such enormous structures. I was always quite impressed with the sheer size of these places, and while many didn’t like them, I’m 100% on the thinking of people who called them “Cathedrals of Power” – to me these huge coal fired plants were just as impressive, if not more so in many ways, than a big cathedral.
I always lament the fact I never got the balls to urbex in one of the many that lay abandoned before they went. Fiddler’s Ferry is not far from me and largely still standing, so I could do it, but wouldn’t risk it.
The last to go is also the biggest, Drax, still part running and firing “biomass” but it’s a bit of a scam really so no doubt will be ended before too long.
Good drone video btw, but can’t wait to see the ones from the demolition team. They always go a bit mental these days with full on FPV drones flying through the explosions, remote cameras on the ground, etc.

I’ve been inside Ratcliffe on Soar a few times. Hugely impressive and left some vivid memories.
I hope that keep either RoS or Drax intact as a listed building. Coal fired power stations are a big part of our industrial heritage and history.
I wonder if we will regret that one day. When society collapses, and the 800 years later, we are wondering who the builders were.
Everything will be about protecting the **National Grid** itself during the years to come.
It doesn’t matter *how* you generate electric power – if you don’t have the means to get it to the end customer.
At least one person is going to look out their window and be confused as to where it went
I still have my contractors pass for Cottam in the safe, been a good few years now though
I’ve seen some shit videos on this website. This video is absolutely not one of them!
Yea, no harm in leaving them there though , you know, just in case. Burning bridges and all that.
I was hoping to see a massive shockwave rip through the country side 👷🏽
First work was at Cottam for me. Nuts to see them go after parking under them everyday for a year!
Friend of mine is up there fishing and sent me a video as it happened at lunch was so cool! Crazy they did all of them at once
What a shame.
I know they’re not exactly picturesque, but they’re part of the industrial heritage of our country – like Battersea Power Station – and I think there’s a strong case for preserving them.
Interesting article here from the C20th Society about their campaign to save Britain’s cooling towers:
I’m absolutely gutted about the demolition, my heart aches for British heritage. Could they not have left one? It’s an important piece of history. They were grand in their own way. Sad.
Went to see the cooling towers at Didcot get demolished a few years back, way better in person. Also they fucked it up a bit and none of the traffic lights had power on the way home
You got a great view of it. Bet there was loads of people around?
Travelled a few weeks ago between Lincoln and Gainsborough (hadn’t been in to Lincs properly before) and was quite impressed by the scale of these.

The BBC added multiple angles. Very cool to see.

Capturing the right moment, even the helicopter is seen
Just me that was watching the drone and only saw the demo when smoke started to rise?
Now you see it, now you don’t.
Well how the fuck is anyone suppose to find Sundown Adventureland now….
I see (saw) these when driving home often. Shame.
Our choral group toured an abandoned place like that. Acoustics were amazing when we sang!
That looks exceptionally well executed
It’s a record
