It made me want to start swinging when my mate said this down south. Its f*cking dinner!
Have afternoon tea at the Ritz in London, best I’ve had and I don’t normally like posh stuff.
I reckon if you keep eating the sandwiches and cakes they’ll just keep bringing you more. I think I ate and drank my own body weight in a couple of hours there.
Just wait til you learn about High Tea…!
I’m Spanish, living in UK since 2018 and I love afternoon tea.
As a Yorkshireman who calls tea his evening meal, I was always concerned about Dido’s terrible sleeping pattern given she was wondering why she got out of bed because her tea had gone cold.
Wait….I was born here and what do you mean afternoon tea involves no actual consumption of tea?
How did that take you 12 years
Ah, you should have come straight round to mine when you arrived. It would have been much quicker
Just to warn you before this one gets you: Cream tea means tea Plus scones served with jam and cream. Not tea, with cream inside the mug of tea
I remember when I was a tween, freshly imported into the UK, my teacher would ask everyone individually what they had for tea last night. I would always say “I never have tea” (I do nowadays 😌) and he always accused me of lying in front of everyone and I felt so cheated. Sorry sir that other languages aren’t so primitive and can make a distinction between food meals and drinks. But now that I’m older and do intermittent fasting, I do like calling my early dinner tea, it makes me feel fancy (quite the opposite of the origin of this word)
There was a story where a northern lady and a southern girl were in a relationship, and whenever they would go see his family he would say not to eat, they will feed you.
And every single time she would not eat, refuse tea, and leave hungry.
