  1. Was tracking this, it shadowed a private jet into Stansted. No emergency squawk though.

  2. Heard the boom in Orpington, bloody loud! Didn’t hear the actual jet at all though.

Got no knowledge of this kind of thing. Does the colour of the line on the pic denote speed? Purple fastest?

  3. Going Basil Brush over the UK mainland? Quite the sight.

  4. It was intercepting a flight from Nice to Stansted.

  5. Would be cool if the line showed red for Mach 2 and above etc

  6. Can only assume they lost contact with the plane it was following and it was thus deemed emergency to visually see it.

  7. At which point on the map did it go supersonic? I heard it, would be interesting to know the distance.

  8. That’s what that noise was! Pretty sure I heard this down in Gatwick – thought there had been some sort of an explosion.

  9. One out ghosting a plane now coming into maplethorpe area.

  10. One (obviously a different one) is also due at Eastbourne air show this afternoon

  11. I can remember the sonic boom tests during the later part of the 1960’s over Southern England to test if all our houses would fall down when aircraft went supersonic..

  12. THAT’S what it was! We are in SE London, Orpington, and I instantly looked for the Thunder cloud. Completely clear sky = thoughts turned to a jet 🙌🏻 They punched it right over our heads.

  13. I heard this in Chelmsford. It shook the house, I thought there was an explosion near by.

  14. If it’s Supersonic, they should make it a white line, I mean, they might as well.

  15. I had a look on Flight Radar, that Typhoon got from level with Cambridge to the Thames in 4 minutes.

  16. Went pretty much over my house in Essex but didn’t notice it… and I was in the garden for much of this morning! 🙁

  17. Have to clear the Catalytic converter every now and again.

  18. Shook my house like hell. At first I thought my house’ roof collapsed. Near Ely, Cambridgeshire.

  19. Heard it near Gatwick and the house even shook slightly. 11.46 when I looked at my watch.

  20. What happened over Borehamwood? A loop the loop?

  21. All the comments in this thread about people shitting their pants illustrates perfectly the reason why Concorde never became commercially viable.

  22. Heard it in Welling.

Thought it was the bin men.

  23. Amazing bit of kit. Still blows my mind that any machine can go that fast – even faster, if we really wanted to.

  24. Was the pilot trying to map out the Suzuka GP circuit?

  25. I read about this on another post. I didn’t hear a thing and I live in this area, but then I was weight training whilst listening to heavy metal.

  26. The bit of the line that’s all squiggly, what’s going on there then?

  27. I love how rhe good people of Orpington all heard it. If London is a Snowpiercer train barrelling towards oblivion, Orpington is the Quiet Carriage.
