Seine river open for swimming: Paris placed under “high vigilance” over heatwave • FRANCE 24
Green, murky, refreshing. The waters of the river Sen are beckoning as Paris endures yet another summer heat wave. Even skeptics are taking the plunge. I lost a bet with my boss at my job. And so the result of the bet was that when I came to Paris, I had to swim in the sand because I was saying that I would never swim in the sand. After being banned for more than a hundred years due to pollution and navigation risks, three swimming sites based on competition zones from the 2024 Summer Olympics opened to the public in early July. Since then, well over 35,000 Parisians and visitors have dived in well beyond the expectations of city hall. We have between 800 and 1,200 visitors per day. Uh and uh there was a lot of tourists that come in here in Grenell to uh to enjoy the view. We like have the most beautiful view in the world to to swim with FL to those numbers were racked up in spite of an unseasonably rainy month that brought 13 days of closures as rain increases water pollution upstream. Paris spent 1.4 billion to clean up the notoriously dirty waterway. A project that has been mostly a success, though heavy downpours can still overload infrastructure and send city sewage into the river. Water quality, though, is tested daily and no major incidents have been reported. The sites are planned to remain open till the end of August.
Temperature records were broken at at least four weather stations in southern France on Monday as much of the country baked in a new summer heatwave and the government called for vigilance. Bryan Quinn tells us more.

… no, thanks.
Spent a long time in Paris… I would NEVER EVER swim in the Seine !
It seems odd, but wasn't the Seine thoroughly cleaned up before the Olympics on 26 July 2025.
I would like to say Thanks for cleaning up the Seine for swimming. It was a worthwhile endeavor and much appreciated. It shows Paris and France in a favorable light and benefits all the citizens. Keep up the great work for all.
All local hospitals are on standby.
