Cleric Stresses Strengthening Iran-Iraq Scientific Cooperation in Light of Arbaeen’s Message

Speaking at a joint gathering of Iranian and Iraqi university professors held at the shrine of Imam Hussain (AS), he called for academic collaboration that leads to technological advancement and the production of solutions to meet the needs of Islamic societies.

“Imam Hussain’s (AS) movement was aimed at rescuing humanity from ignorance and confusion,” Rostami said. “This understanding places a great responsibility on academic institutions in Iran and Iraq—two nations devoted to the Ahl al-Bayt (AS).”

He noted that many professors participating in this year’s Arbaeen pilgrimage were walking in symbolic representation of their martyred colleagues.

“In the recent 12-day war, we lost distinguished scholars—university presidents, deans, and internationally respected academics—alongside military commanders. The Islamic Republic of Iran stood firm against the global powers of disbelief, relying on domestic scientific capabilities and the support of defenders and fighters.”

Rostami condemned the atrocities committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza, stating:

“The so-called defenders of human rights have killed nearly 20,000 children and 20,000 women—mothers, daughters, and wives—while claiming to represent the values of civilization. Yet, there is no meaningful response or condemnation from the global powers.”

He added: “In attacks against Iran, we have seen similar tragedies—infants, mothers, and innocent civilians martyred. What enabled Iran to prevail in this confrontation with global arrogance was the unity of scientific resolve and spiritual will.”

Referring to the message of Arbaeen, Rostami said: “Arbaeen, as described in the pilgrimage to Imam Hussein (AS), is a reminder of the path that liberates humanity from ignorance. One of its core messages is the importance of knowledge and scientific power.”

Quoting the Supreme Leader, he continued: “On the occasion of the Arbaeen of the martyrs of the 12-day war, the Supreme Leader stated that the Islamic system is built upon two pillars: religion and knowledge. Arbaeen embodies both. The journey toward Imam Hussein (AS) is a movement toward truth, and anything rooted in ignorance must be left behind.”

Rostami praised the generosity and hospitality of the Iraqi people during Arbaeen: “In this pilgrimage, we witness the unmatched kindness of Iraq’s brave and noble people. Ethnic and sectarian divisions fade, replaced by love, dignity, and compassion. This is the universal message of Arbaeen.”
