I created an interactive data viz in Flourish to view free museums in NYC, because I was there this summer and I wanted something like this to exist. There is a map view and timeline view.
This was my first time using Flourish, and I had to work around a lot of its limitations. I did my best to incorporate the time axis into the map, but I wish I had been able to use a slider… I'm learning javascript so eventually I can make these on my own.
Feel free to give feedback, and let me know if you use this guide!

Very cool, and the timeline is especially handy! The only thing I think I’d want to see added if I was planning excursions with this would be to select the categories the same way you can select the days. So if I’m just curious about free gardens, I can weed out the other categories.
There’s a museum in seaport which is “pay what you like”. I got in for a dollar.
Edit: includes a tour of an old ship. I was the only person there besides a nice Italian couple.
Colour scheme is really really bad. Can’t distinguish at all between Traditional Art and Zoo, and Garden, History and Culture are all too close.
If would be nice if it included museums that are effectively free (pay whay you want) for ny residents, e.g. The Met. Nice for visitors though.
The labels on the museums are wrong, they are the same as the color mapping.
I’m in NYC right now, bless you for this beauty
