I’ve only ever heard these referred to as *you-know-these-French-loos,* followed by an explanation how they are not actually French, but that’s where people knew them from.

It was initially invented by the Belgians. The Turkish only added the hole. We celebrate their engineering genius since then.
In Russian it’s called Чаша Генуя (Chasha Genuya), which is literally “Genoa Cup” 😀

Probably because you’d only ever seen these monsters on the continent
in turkish its “alla turca toilet” from italian, (derived as alaturka), aka turkish style toilet, lol
its used by hicks mostly and a VERY specific type of person that cant fathom sitting on a toilet that was used by someone else, who’ll also argue how we “adopted the filthy western toilets instead of our beautiful alla turca toilets”

My colleague who attended elementary school in Veneto in the 80s said that his school had these “toilets” and I wonder to this day how much of a fucked up kind of sadist can one be to make 6 years olds shit in that hole.
