An analysis of comedy/satire and political commentary. How new.
The only reason this is news is because every other large corporation, law firm, and university that has gone up against Trump has rolled over and complied to his insane demands.
South Park stands alone because of others complying.
The fact that those two are still not only capable of pushing boundaries but are making news about it after 20 years is wildly impressive.
A good outlet. Good for our mental health. Keep on making fun of this corruption.
???? Are we recycling 25 year old news content? Do people know what South Park has been doing since…. It’s whole life?!?
Satire has an important place in society by normalizing skepticism and suspicion of those in power, and knocking society’s idols off of their pedestals.
In the 90s, I lamented the slow demise of Mad Magazine’s relevance and wondered where younger generations would find satire. Then South Park debuted.
South Park makes fun of anyone and everyone.
This is so silly to me because they’ve been doing the same shit they always do for like 30 years but now it’s a big deal.
It means that cartoonists have bigger balls than most politicians in Congress.
Credit for what they’re doing now but not forgetting that they were a big part of how we got here. This idea that selflessness is inherently performative that they pushed for a very long time has an effect on the discourse.
I think, given it’s popularity (and fans of differing political beliefs too) it’ll wind up being a huge picking point for the American government to censor and it’s going to trigger insane back lash. We’ve been screwed by covid, cost of living crisis, we have few things that make us happy, we’re all isolated and confused/upset/numb/dismayed by the current global climate that if our show is jeopardised, especially one we can generally rely on for hard hitting, progressive, provocative social commentary, there’s gonna be a huge domino effect to chaos. Fucking with Colbert is different than the political sphere messing with South Park.
Nothing. They don’t have any power politically. They’ve been shitting on Trump, Bush, and whomever else for decades. Hasn’t stopped America from embracing fascism.
Nothing. Nothing means anything anymore.
Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
GTA VI team, take notice.
Maybe if Trump and his henchmen were less Saturday morning cartoon level villainous it would be more difficult to parody them. Maybe? They’re pretty god damned evil and simultaneously idiotic.
Thirty years on you’re just asking this question?
Is this the lowest level of clickbait journalism imaginable?
My god. You’re telling me the show we’ve been watching for decades has politics in it???!
Member when it was just an anal probe?
Absolutely nothing.
It’s not boundry pushing though. Its the exact same stuff they have always done? The difference is we are in a fanciest takeover and many others have stopped doing the same stuff
Boundary pushing?
Someone needs to tell it how it is.
Truth pushing, would be a better term.
Greed and profit rule all.
Truth don’t even hit the top 10 of reasons for any politician.
As long as someone knows they are good.
Thats all that matters.
Too bad you didn’t take it first.
Greed will be the end of democracy.
Better get it now, before we are all enslaved.
And people vote for this shit.
Such weak willed fucks.
What Boundary? No boundaries here, or in Politics apparently. Carry on.
They’ve been warning us about Trump since 2015.
They’ve been doing this for nearly 30 years.
They aren’t pushing the boundary. Comedy hasn’t changed, the politicians changed. They can’t handle being made fun of.
