European equities were set to open higher on Monday as investors focused on a key meeting in Washington between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy aimed at advancing a peace deal with Russia.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte are also expected to attend.

Trump said he would press Zelenskiy to agree to a quick settlement following his Friday talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

While those discussions failed to produce a ceasefire breakthrough, Putin agreed to allow the US and Europe to provide Ukraine with robust security guarantees as part of an eventual deal.

On the data front, investors will digest Spanish and euro area trade balance figures, with no major corporate earnings scheduled for release.

In premarket trade, Euro Stoxx 50 and Stoxx 600 futures were both up about 0.2%.
