Türkiye’s national team secured four bronze medals at the 21st International Geography Olympiad, held in Thailand, where students from 47 countries competed.
Recognition for student achievements
Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacir announced the results, highlighting that Turkish students represented their country with distinction.
He noted that the competition brought together 179 students from around the world.
Support from academic community
In his statement shared on social media, Kacir said: “Our young people made us proud by winning four bronze medals. I congratulate them, thank their families, teachers, and all the academics who supported them through this journey.”
According to the announcement, the medal-winning students were Kayra Sonmez, Kuzey Burak Timur, Umut Caglar Can, and Tuna Esmer. They were trained under the Science Olympiads Program run by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TUBITAK), Türkiye’s Scientific and Technological Research Council.
The 22nd edition of the Olympics will take place in Istanbul, Türkiye, in 2026.
