Greystanes, a Screen Australia-funded Maltese-Australian series, has officially launched with all 18 episodes now available on TikTok.
The first seven episodes are being broadcast on Maltese television on Friday 22nd August at 9pm as part of the “Malta Short Film Festival” on TVM. Since its release, the Western Sydney-made show has already clocked more than half a million views. Set in 1995, Greystanes follows 11-year-old Samantha and her older brother Marius as they spend the school holidays with their Maltese grandmother in the Sydney suburb of Greystanes.
What begins as a family visit soon spirals into a chilling adventure, as the siblings uncover a dark family secret and face terrifying creatures pulled straight from Maltese folklore. Filmed in and around Greystanes—a stronghold of Sydney’s Maltese community—the series blends local settings, an all-Australian cast, and high-end visual effects to bring a nightmare world to life.
Supported by Screen Australia and TikTok’s Every Voice initiative, Greystanes also received development funding from Screen NSW. Local sponsors included Mario’s Pastizzi and the Maltese Cultural Association of NSW.
Since its festival run, Greystanes has earned a string of accolades. It won Best Vertical Series at the Sydney WebFest (2024), as well as Best Editing and runner-up for Best in the West at the Made in the West Film Festival (2024). The series has also been nominated at the Australian Directors Guild Awards (2024), Australian Writers’ Guild Awards (2025), and international festivals including New Jersey Web Festival, Apulia Web Fest, and Rio WebFest.
The production team boasts strong credentials, with co-producers Julian Ramundi and Helena Dodd, line producer Tsu Shan Chambers, creature effects by Lewis P. Morley (best known for his animatronic work on the 1984 cult horror Razorback), and a score by AACTA-nominated composer Me-Lee Hay.
