  1. People would shit on the fan’s rude attitude but let’s be honest…he said what every asoaif fan said at one point

The truth is that  GRRM fucked his fans..  not by finish the books but by not respecting the deadlines HE himself set up to fail

  2. He has no idea how to finish it. This guy has been on a pedalstal way too long

  3. It’s been way too long, the book isn’t coming. And even if it magically did people know Dream would definitely never happen.

It’s unfortunate because George is a very talented writer, but abandoning his own series without a conclusion will always be his legacy.

  4. “Martin has also previously added that the book will be the longest he has written, and that he is more than 75% finished. During the panel, he added that he had taken the weekend off from writing to attend.”

Really George? Just the weekend? I’m sure that must have put a real dent in your sitting by the pool, playing with a remote car schedule.

I get creative dry spells but I completely dismiss the idea that there’s no way around it – Terry Prattchett kept writing books, making appearances and paving the way for his daughter and assitant to take the reins after he was gone – but this guy, THIS FUCKING GUY, seems to want to write literally anything else about Westeros than the main thread. I can respect that, if you’re bored with it all good; just hand your notes over, let someone else do the writing and collaborate. it’s really not that hard to give everyone closure.

  5. Brandon Sanderson finished Wheel of Time which is why his name is always brought up for this but he’s also said he’d never do it.

  6. He’s in a no win situation at this point. He can be the guy who never finishes the story OR the guy who ruined it with *that* ending.

He should probably just plug his ears with obscene amounts of money and enjoy his life.

  7. Every time an ASOIAF fan is shitty about the release schedule George takes an hour off from writing. If everyone starts being really cool tomorrow – the next book will be finished in 20266.

  8. Hopefully the angry fan will move on to depressed fan and accepting fan sooner rather than later.

  9. If I was george I’d finish it by just copying exactly what the series did and piss everyone off, fuck em

  10. A) Please no and

    B) Sanderson has said he won’t anyway

  11. Loved the first five books, Ive reread them a few times, i have read all the other connected books but I haven’t touched them in ten years, Im over it, I don’t expect to ever read the last two. I dont care at this point. All the major plot points endings were in the show. The biggest mistake this dude made was allowing HBO to make the series before it was completed in book form, thats the only way he fucked over fans (and himself, out of more money) who supported him. At this point he owes nothing to anyone.

  12. He is never going to finish it plain and simple, you’re beating a dead horse

  13. I’ll do it. I’ll finish the books for him.

You guys liked the way the show ended right? because that’s how I write.

  14. At this point if I were him, I wouldn’t finish it out of spite.

  15. I love it when fans think they own a franchise just because they are fans.

  16. I can’t finish shit either. As a creative it’s one of my hugest flaws because it has to be PERFECT in my head and if it isn’t or I can’t find a way to do it then I… don’t.

What really motivates me? Partners. Someone by my side who has just that much passion. OR: Rivals.

Lately tho the world hasn’t been so inspiring to me and it’s hard to get anything done it feels like.

I wonder if he has the same thoughts and is at the point where he thinks “it’s been so long now that it must be so amazing, epic in length, detailed…” and then gets frazzled when trying to focus on his end goal. Honestly I bet if he didn’t say this was his last book and had more to come he wouldn’t have taken so long because he’d feel less restricted from his own cage he’s built himself in.

I dunno though! Just giving my perspective

  17. The South Park GoT episode where he kept saying about his book “Oooh it’s coming!” came out 12 years ago

  18. I loved the Wheel of Time series and was disappointed when Robert Jordan didn’t live long enough to finish them. For that reason I will never start or read any of the Game of Thrones books. I know GRRM will not live long enough to finish it – especially with how he goes about writing prequels, histories and lore. The fan was out of pocket, but they were right.

  19. Nothing against Sanderson but he would be a terrible choice for ASOIAF. I would like to see what Tad Williams could do with it.

  20. If I were an aged multi-millionaire, it would sure be difficult to spend the last of my living years all alone in an office typing away at a monstrously complex project.

I would much rather attend parties with great food and conversation and hang out on TV sets with attractive female actresses.

  21. Why would he finish it? He’s made generational wealth off it being incomplete, and the show proved that ending it badly would ruin his legacy. He literally has zero reason to finish the series.

  22. There is no need to be angry, TWOW is never coming out. The sooner you accept, the happier you’ll be.

  23. After completing the 5 Stormlight Archive books, Sanderson should not complete anyone else’s books. They are sloppy slogs and poorly edited. He’ll bore me to death.

  24. God please no. I’ve been a fan of Sanderson for the last decade, but his most recent book – the conclusion of part one of his largest setting – was so awful compared to the rest of his work that I’m fearful for the remainder of the cosmere. If winds of winter does need handed off, please not Sanderson, unless SA book 5 was a fluke of sub-par quality.

  25. My god, people need to get a life and move on. Just because we like his books doesn’t mean he has an obligation to finish the series off or work to any deadline set by anyone, including himself. Yes, it sucks for us and I’m just as gutted at the situation, but it is what it is. The man has a right to take all the time in the world if he even chooses not to spend any more time on it. It’s his passion he shared with us, and if he’s still up to it, he will get around to it and if not, then so be it. He owes nobody anything.

  26. Jesus Christ people move on. This is peak toxic fandom. You are not OWED a goddam book

  27. Yeah that’ll do it /s

I get the desire to see the books finished, but confronting the author is just rude.

  28. I hope he never finishes it just to spite these people.

  29. He is never going to finish the books because he already gave us the ending he had in mind ( much more rushed I’m sure, but hitting all the notes) and he saw the reaction of the fan base.
He is not going to finish a series where the feedback he received was so shitty.
He’s done with GOT. He is just afraid to say it out loud because I think he’s actually come to enjoy the dialog around his inability to finish this series…it keeps him relevant.
The books will never be completed.
