When you are at war, you must pick the battles that are more critical and, at the ver least, pretend to be friends with others while you are busy fighting off the bigger threat.

These two issues create immense problems with energy security that will raise prices. These raised prices will be perceived as a threat to working people, despite the benefits of cleaner air and a cleaner environment. As much as climate justice is important, you have to make it politically palatable so, as much as I disagree with Newsom’s actions, what he is doing makes political sense.
Seems to be a practical response to a problem. The green energy commitment continues.

I’m not happy about it, but Gavin knows the writing is on the wall. By the time Trump leaves, big oil will be entrenched all over the US. They currently have all three government branches doing their bidding. It will take a decade or more to undo everything they will get over the next four years.
Actually it might take decades if Vance becomes the next president. The midterms in 2026 are either going to make big oil more comfortable or make them scramble before Trump is out of office.
No matter what, they have the Supreme Court indefinitely. With lifetime appointments, I don’t think democrats will hold a majority in the court again until after most of us are dead.
Everything that a politician does is for the benefit of their career. He thinks he’s going to be president in three years so he’s making sure that he plays both sides. How can you not see through his motives.
This is a pattern with him, and it’s maddening.
Dems really going to run another centrist in 2028? They have learned nothing.

I will just plug this report conducted in 2024 by the California Energy Commission: https://www.energy.ca.gov/publications/2024/transportation-fuels-assessment-policy-options-reliable-supply-affordable-and. TLDR California is a fuel island that lacks external connections with other states. California also requires a particular fuel blend that is not produced in many other locations, which is the exact fuel blend produced by these two refineries.
