Turkey reportedly expects to raise a minimum of $2.1 billion from the new spectrum auction, which will pave the way for the nationwide launch of 5G services.

“We have reached the final stage in our efforts to bring 5G technologies to the country,” transport and infrastructure minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu said in a post on the social messaging platform X.

The auction date and full details will be unveiled shortly, he said.

Under a presidential decree, a total of 400 MHz frequency in the 700 MHz and 3.5 GHz bands will be made available to mobile operators, divided into 11 packages.

Each of the three packages in the 700 MHz band will have a minimum price of $425 million. Eight packages in the 3.5 GHz band will range between $50 million and $200 million, the Daily Sabah newspaper reported, quoting the minister.

“5G will provide internet speeds 10 to 100 times faster than 4.5G,” Uraloğlu said in a post.

The 2G, 3G and 4.5G frequencies are set to expire in 2029.

The mobile subscriber base stands at 94 million, reflecting a 110 percent penetration rate, according to the latest data from the national telecom regulator.
