  1. Keep trolling, keep rolling out the redistricting, and just continue to be a festering hemorrhoid on Trump’s ass and you get my vote in the primary.

  2. I cant say I support him but I would vote for him over republicans any day

  3. The guy knows how to make use of the media, that’s for sure. Though the election is far away from now and much could change.

But based on his record, it’s a bit of a justified concern that a Newsom presidency will just be a continuation of neoliberal policies that are leading to a surge of the far right across western countries. Worst case scenario, Republicans are let off the hook again for their criminal acts in the interest of “bringing the nation together”.

  4. My concern is I feel he is only doing things he sees as politically expedient to get him to the presidency rather than having any conviction. The fact that he is so open to platform people like Bannon or completely open to abandoning LGBTQ people when the narrative became the “reason” the Dems lost in 24 is concerning. Also I fear the guy would be at the complete whim of big money particularly the tech bro sector.

  5. Please no. He can keep attacking trump, but we don’t need this moderate corporate shit again again again

  6. This survey has newsom in SECOND, at 13%. He’s behind Kamala at 26%.

Just shows you what an absolute joke polls are this far out.

  7. I cannot believe how fast y’all jumped on this dude’s hype train. He’s a shitty grifter, but at least everyone will get to go back to brunch

  8. As an outsider, i think this would be a mistake. He’s a great attack dog as a counter to someone like trump. But as someone to rally around nationally, he gives off the worst kind of vibe.

  9. Polls this far out are useless.

BUT this surge does highlight just how popular it is to actually do something to stand up to Trump and the GOP.

  10. “Surges”

He’s at 13%, second behind Harris (26%) who’s been at the top with every poll they’ve done. Also they’re comparing to a poll done in April, but they’ve done other polls since, and he’s only gained 3% since the last one (where Harris was also at 26%). Although his trolling is fantastic, it’s way too far out to see who’s actually got a chance here. Brooker went up to 12% after his stunt and now is down to 5%. We’ll probably only have a good idea after the midterms.

  11. *sigh*

I dont like newsome because hes had right-wing influencers on his podcast as well as be two-faced on certain issues.

If anything, he strikes me as a blue Trump.

BUT, I’ve been impressed how he’s the only one with a spine lately against trumps current bullshit…

I’d still vote for him if he was the only option, but im pessimistic he would win…

  12. Newsom is definitely meeting this moment, as loathe as I am to admit it, but polls this early don’t really indicate anything except name recognition.

  13. Dislike him and vote or get trump again he’s paving the way to life presidency.

  14. He certainly wouldn’t be my first choice. Or my 10th. But if Trump somehow tries a third term but has an actual election or JD Vance is running I’d take a moldy ham sandwich.

I’m hoping there’s some junior senator who will step up like Obama. And there are a few wildcards who I doubt are even considering a run. For example: James Talarico, a state legislator from Texas, wowed me in footage of the Texas Ten Commandments hearings.

  15. Pritzger is right there you guys. And has not thrown trans people under the bus.

  16. I’m just afraid he can’t win a general election with him. I’m sure he could be a strong primary for the Democrats. But the general election is important.

I got issues with him, but he’s the only one getting a strong message out there. I’m just afraid that Republicans would use the “Californian Stench”, their speak, against him.

Fuck it though I will take anyone not Kamala. Nothing against Kamala, she just can’t win as proven twice now.

  17. Because he’s actually punching back. Gavin is not my ideal candidate but I think he’s showing other Democrats the way forward here and if they don’t follow suit it’s pretty dumb.

  18. No shit. You mean the go high when they go low doesn’t work????

  19. He’s good for the moment we are in now, but not for President.

  20. newsom is one of the only ones willing to engage and not hide in the shadows. i don’t care what a persons policies are, if 2028 comes around and i haven’t heard shirt from them over the past 4 years, i will not be supporting them. these 4 years are where the next candidates will be built for me.

  21. Americans like dicks. Trump won by being a dick. Every disabled journalist he mocked, every woman he said looks like a dog, every mean nickname, it all helped his popularity. Newsom is being a dick back at Trump and people love it. Trump didn’t win on ideas, he won on vibes. We won’t beat him with better policy, we beat him by killing his aura, his mojo, his image.

  22. i don’t like him, or want him as the dem nominee, but right now, there’s seemingly NO candidate that’ll prove a sizable challenge with established popularity quite like gavin. I liked him as my city’s mayor, but he needs to start disavowing cronyism, and break with the luddites in charge of the DNC if he wants more left leaning votes.

  23. Because he’s finding ways to relate to people, he’s taking direct stands against Trump’s actions. California is an economic juggernaut that doesn’t need federal support to keep it running (unlike Texas, which does need federal support for its economy).

Whether you like or hate his political views, he’s taking an approach people are in support of by fighting fire with fire. People in NYC like Mamdani because his view for New York offers an untried solution in a city where people can’t tolerate the status quo anymore.

Democrats are unpopular because they are perceived as spineless and “the status quo” party. It worked in 2020 because Trump kept shooting himself in the foot on his handling of the pandemic, but it didn’t work in 2024 because people were still struggling and couldn’t accept things continuing as they were.

No one has cleared way for themselves in a meaningful way for the 2028 election, and whether he does run or not, Newsom is gathering positive attention for the Democratic party and pissing off Trump at the same time.

  24. I’m pretty sure I am to his left and I would definitely vote for him, assuming we don’t magically get some Bernie-like figure that has a chance. (Not that I’d be surprised if Bernie lived to be 100, he has tenacity)

  25. How sad that he’s one of the best prospect simply because he did some shitposting on Twitter.

Dems are so pathetic, man. No wonder we are where we are.

  26. Right now he’s got my vote. He seems to be the only Dem that knows how to talk to Republicans properly.

  27. He’s not who I want, but you can’t deny his strategy is working.

  28. The 28 ticket will be him and AOC,

only thing they need to do is decide the order

  29. Reading these comments…the Dems are about to tank another election. Not because of the nominee but because of their holier than thou voters…

  30. He may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I bet you he fights back against any kind of voter tampering and election fraud better than any other democrat. He oozes hope.

  31. Gonna be a lot of false flag, concern trolling, “Not a real dem!” bullshit thrown at him over the next 3 years, just like the rush on Kamala.

For some reason, people have this notion that the billionaires can only hire right wingers to keep people divided.

  32. I have never been a big fan but watching most of the Democrats act like a bunch of weak asses while Gavin keeps up the fight has me changing my mind. We are fighting off an authoritarian regime. We need strong fighters like him.

  33. Nah. Fuck that. I mean good on him for taking trump down a peg. But id rather not vote for him.
