Drivers in Soho and Mayfair could be fined for loudly revving engines

  1. Can they extend this to Hackney please? The amount of times bikes and idiot drivers rev down the streets in the early hours is absurd.

  2. Drivers in Soho should be banned, so that there are no cars in Soho.

  3. I would *love* this in Croydon, there are too many noisy motorbikes revving their engines at the lights outside my flat. There is a legal noise limit but like many things, there’s very little (if any) enforcement.

  4. If this could come to walthamstow I’d be very happy

  5. Confiscate the cars, sell them and use the money to pay for more bike lanes.

  6. It feels like both this and the annoying Limebike beep/click noise pollution has really increased this summer too.

  7. The bikers that rev up super loudly and burn rubber in front of Bar Italia are quivering in their boots (they will never be fined)

  8. How about instead of “Soho and Mayfair” we make it “everywhere”. And instead of “fined” we make it “vehicle confiscated”.

  9. Any aftermarket mods which increase the loudness of the car from the factory should be banned and fail during an Mot. Doesnt take more than 1 min to rev the car to X rpm and have a decimal meter to see if it goes above Y loudness.

  10. I wish they would apply this to motorbikes too in my area.

These assholes rev extremely loudly all through the night.

    They’re clearly doing it deliberately.

  11. As somebody who lived in central london in university halls, getting startled by a revving engine just as you were drifting off to sleep was practically a daily occurrence.

  12. If my borough did this, the council would be out of their deficit so quickly

  13. Unless the fines are proportional to the persons income/fortune, they wont mean shit.
Regular fines are essentially just fee to behave shitty for the rich. It needs to hurt them, so make it proportional to their income/fortune, they do this in parts of switzerland and Norway.
Knowing these councils, this will probably remain wishful thinking.

  14. Just pedestrianise it all there’s no fucking need for cars in these areas at all
