Russian state propagandists have released a film about the siege of Mariupol that, inadvertently documents war crimes committed by Russian forces, according to Militarnyi on August 20.

Journalist Denys Kazanskyi drew attention to the film, titled “At the Edge of the Abyss”, which depicts deliberate attacks on civilians.

In one scene, Russian soldiers are shown firing on a civilian car carrying elderly Ukrainians and children.

“I’ve long said there’s no need for anti-Russian propaganda. No one produces Russophobia better than the Russians themselves,” Kazanskyi remarked.

Reports from April 20 indicated that Russia’s state-owned defense manufacturer Uralvagonzavod dispatched what appeared to be its only T-72B3M tank equipped with the Arena-M active protection system for use in the film.

That same tank—stripped of its protective “grill armor”—was later seen during filming in occupied Mariupol.

The film has sparked outrage for both its glorification of the invasion and for inadvertently confirming evidence of Moscow’s attacks on civilians.

Earlier, it was reported that Russia has repeatedly staged high-profile trials of Ukrainian prisoners of war, particularly members of the Azov Brigade, branding them as “terrorists” despite international law recognizing them as combatants. Human rights groups have condemned these prosecutions as politically motivated and in violation of the Geneva Conventions.
