Historic embarrassment for CFR Cluj in Sweden, coach Petrescu resigns – the two Kosovars of the Romanian club experience the most bitter evening
A dark evening for Romanian football and especially for CFR Cluj. The Romanian club was humiliated in Sweden, where they suffered a crushing 7:2 defeat by Häcken in the first leg of the Conference League play-offs, entering the negative history of European competitions.
Part of Cluj’s starting 11 was also the Kosovar duo, Meriton Korenica and Lindon Emërllahu, writes Gazeta Express.
After the failure, coach Dan Petrescu resigned. He made his decision clear immediately after the match and confirmed it at the press conference.
“We started very badly and conceded quick goals. We didn’t adapt to the pitch, while Häcken played his best game of the year, playing fantastically in attack. We were very weak in defense. This was my last game, I won’t be on the bench for the return. I’m ashamed of this result,” said Petrescu.
