A father-of-two stabbed an armed intruder to death after he was beaten with a crowbar in front of his partner and children.
The man, who has not been named, was forced to protect his family when a gang of six masked men burst into his Selby home and beat him with a crowbar and their fists.

Terrible situation, but actually handled correctly by the police, and CPS. I was half expecting and excessive force investigation against the guy defending himself.
Good for him protecting his family
And he should face no charges.
Nobody should be made to feel unsafe in their own home. Poor family has been through it.
Impressive, hope his family are ok and glad there’s no charges.
Absolutely harrowing for him and his family, I hope they can move on from it. As for the attackers.. Well that is a case of ‘F’d up and found out’ if I ever heard it. I’m glad the justice system made sense in this case.
Holy shit this website is almost as appalling and horrific as the 6 Bally wearing ruffians.
I guess he fucked around and found out.
Am I the only person who read it who thinks that there is more to this story? 6 random burglars all over 30 robbing a random house whilst it was occupied? Doesn’t happen often.
No doubt in my mind this was a targeted attack. This guy was getting a beating for some reason. Fair play for fighting back but if this guy isn’t a career criminal with some enemies I’ll eat my hat.
Good for him, nicely done
There’s more to this than is being reported. He owed someone
Jesus if you look up the guy in the picture. He seems like a right piece of work. 24 years though
Give that homeowner a medal
Where are all the people saying you aren’t allowed to defend yourself and the law always sides with criminals, then?
Sometimes we need to give the police props, they found the other five intruders within 48 hours and didn’t even consider arresting the guy for defending himself and his family. I was waiting to read that he’d been arrested for manslaughter

Fair
Judge for yourself if this was just a regular dad at home with his kids.

“The victim then managed to grab a Rambo-style knife from his bedroom. When a man referred to as “Male 1” got on top of him, the victim threw him off and lunged at him with the blade about three times.”
“Mr Petterson said the raiders intended to, and did, steal drugs from the victim’s home.
“He said that police didn’t find any cocaine at the victim’s address but did later find a camouflage bag full of drugs and paraphernalia under a trampoline at an address in Selby linked to one of the burglars.
“The bag contained cocaine and cannabis inside a fish-food box, plastic grip-seal bags and a set of weighing scales. The prosecution said the drugs were taken from the victim’s home.”
“The homeowner did not face any criminal charges in connection to the man’s death as he was defending himself and his family”
that’s exactly what i wanted to read, protecting himself and his family, should never face charges.
He had to do in which he had to do. Good for him.
I mean, masked gangs with crowbars don’t just randomly pick houses like this.
Good man , the thug got what he deserved. Of course you’ll get the whingers saying that the poor burglar didn’t deserve that………….YES he did !! He gave no thought to the pain , fear & misery he brought to that family
I woke up at half past four this morning to find someone trying to take off my front gate. I didn’t say anything, in case he took offense
Good for him. If you are going to break into a family man’s home, expect to be dealt with in whatever means necessary.
explain how him possessing that knife wasn’t in breach of the Offensive Weapons Act?
It’s good to see some common sense policing in situations like this.
UK police despise when the general public defends themselves and get in the news.
Unfortunately I expect them to pull out all the stops to prosecute him
