Police found and seized more than 300 marijuana plants from a property in the Saldus municipality. Several persons have been identified as suspects in the criminal proceedings, the State Police said.

At the end of July, a specially arranged place was discovered in a backyard in Saldus municipality, where plants containing narcotic substances were being grown. During the procedural actions, the police found and seized marijuana plants, as well as dried plant matter.

In total, more than 300 marijuana plants were seized, and forensic tests were ordered to determine the quantity and composition of the narcotic substances in the plants.

The State Police has initiated criminal proceedings for the unauthorised cultivation of plants containing narcotic substances on large areas or by an organised group, and for the unauthorised possession of narcotic substances by a group of persons by prior agreement and with narcotic substances in large quantities.

Under the Criminal Law, the most severe penalty for such an offence is imprisonment for up to 10 years.

Several persons have been detained and are considered suspects in the criminal proceedings and their role in the commission of this offence is being clarified. All the suspects have been in police custody before. Pre-trial investigations are ongoing.
