Getting to Know Ema Kozin, the Slovenian Champion Who Conquered the Boxing World

Slovenian Ema Kozin, born on December 2, 1998, in Ljubljana, has established herself as one of the most prominent figures in international women’s boxing.

At just 26 years old, she holds the World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) super welterweight titles, following a career that has been on the rise since her professional debut in 2016.

Nicknamed “The Princess,” Kozin is characterized by her southpaw style and a mature boxing career that has led her to face world-class opponents. Her first professional fight took place on September 24, 2016, and since then, she has begun collecting regional and international titles in middleweight and super middleweight, demonstrating her versatility in competing in different divisions.

One of the highlights of her career came in October 2020, when she defeated Uruguayan Chris Namús to capture the interim WBC middleweight title, reaffirming her standing on the world stage. However, she also suffered defeat in February 2022 against American Claressa Shields, considered the pound-for-pound best, in a unification bout in Cardiff, Wales.

Far from slowing down, Kozin returned with even greater determination and in November 2023 achieved a historic victory in Manchester over Scotland’s Hannah Rankin, crowning her unified WBC and WBO super welterweight champion, reaching the pinnacle of her professional career.

To date, Kozin has a record of 24 wins (12 by knockout), 1 loss, and 1 draw, placing her as one of the strongest and most promising boxers on the international circuit.
There are no notable official records from her time in amateur boxing, which makes her meteoric rise to professional boxing an even more striking story within boxing.

With discipline, charisma, and a hunger for glory, Ema Kozin has not only placed Slovenia at the top of women’s boxing, but is also emerging as one of the champions to watch in the coming years.

Ema is preparing for her first title defense against the legendary WBC interim super welterweight champion Cecilia Brækhus, in what is shaping up to be a true generational clash. The fight is scheduled for October 2025 at the Nova Spektrum in Lillestrøm, Norway, as part of the event titled The Final Bell.
