August the 24th, 2025 – Generous Croatian landlords have been offering free holidays to those unable to afford to enjoy a break in their own country this summer.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the Radmanović family from Biljane Gornje has offered two weeks of free accommodation for families from the Croatian countryside who are financially unable to holiday in their own country.

Two families will be able to at their country estate which boasts a swimming pool and is surrounded by plants, nature and friendly domestic animals. These generous Croatian landlords have stated that they will be waiting for them with open arms and that a real Dalmatian feast will have been lovingly prepared for them.

Milan lived in abject poverty in Biljane Gornje until he was fifteen, and then ten years ago, from the stone left by ruins, he and his wife Marija constructed Pavlovi dvori, writes HRT.

“Back then, people were dirt poor in a way few could imagine,” said Milan, who at the age of fifteen, took out a loan from the student cooperative so that he could go to school in Split. At twenty-one, he built only the ground floor of what is now the main house of Pavlovi dvori and married his Marija there. He was also a volunteer in the Homeland War. In retirement, Milan and Marija decided to sell the apartment they lived in in Omiš.

“Retired life didn’t really suit us, it was boring, so we came here. We invested funds in purchasing materials, and we designed and built everything ourselves,” Milan emphasised. Now the pair have fun, socialise, play boules and work in a combination of agriculture and tourism. The tourists who come to them get to enjoy nature and peace and quiet. Pavlovi dvori is currently full, but two weeks in September are reserved for special guests.

“From the 10th to the 17th of September, a girl who is semi-mobile comes to stay here with us with her elderly parents, and from the 17th to the 24th, a family with four children come here. We’re really looking forward to it. We’re here waiting for them and we can’t wait,” said Marija.

“Roses didn’t exactly bloom for us either, we were tenants, there were some really hard days, we didn’t have anything. We know how it feels. We’re aware that we cannot change the world, we cannot move mountains, but we can at least bring a smile to the face of someone who needs it,” concluded the big-hearted Milan Radmanović.
