In Russia, six kilometers from the border with Estonia, a drone fell: what is known
According to Estonian police and border guard, as well as ERR, the morning of August 24 began with reports of a drone crash in the Russian part of Lake Chudskoye, six kilometers from the Estonia–Russia border.
Timeline of the incident
“Initially, at 5:20 a.m., a radar observer from Varni detected an object flying over Lake Chudskoye from the Russian side, which was probably a drone, and we watched its flight until it disappeared from the radar over Russian territory”
– Ivan Poslyedov
An hour later, radar at the border of the town of Mustvee detected a similar object flying from the Russian side.
“We tracked its trajectory to 6:25, when it fell into the water on Russian territory, about 6 kilometers from the Estonia–Russia border”
– Ivan Poslyedov
After the crash, the drone broke into pieces, likely due to an explosion.
“The drones never headed toward Estonia, and it is unclear whether this was the same drone that disappeared from radar, or two different drones”
– A representative of the Police and Border Guard Board of Estonia
Further official details about the incident have not been released; the investigation is ongoing.
Response and next steps
Official agencies continue to assess the circumstances of the incident and gather information for conclusions. The Estonian authorities and the relevant agencies are working to determine the drone’s origin and purpose, and whether these events are part of a larger incident near the border.
