6. How would gunboats stop the people smugglers? They’re not on the small boats. They’ve been paid before their “customers” get on the boats. They don’t come to collect the boats and reuse them, they used to when they used actual boats rather than cheap disposable dinghies. Even if you did shoot all the small boats, the smugglers wouldn’t be affected. Some of the arguments we’re hearing on this topic are utterly bonkers.

7. I fail to see what using the navy to intercept these boats is going to do differently. What’s a destroyer or frigate going to do that a RNLI lifeboat or border force patrol ship can’t? What are people expecting the navy to do to prevent the boats crossing? The whole idea is ridiculous.
