  1. The official version is that the debris of the intercepted drone damaged the transformer for power plant’s own functional needs: coolant water pumps, fans, electrical equipment, etc. It is fed directly from the generator turbine, and things could have been ugly if the reactor didn’t have two turbines per block, each with their own transformer. As such the incident remained without consequence this time around, but the affected turbine needs to be temporarily shut down, hence the 50% drop in exported power.

Ukraine is trying really hard to bait out a harsh Russian retaliation, so Zelensky could come out, throw out a whole bunch of accusations of completely unprovoked attacks, and use them to delay or scuttle the ongoing peace negotiation effort under the pretense that “Russia doesn’t want peace. Look at how mercilessly they attacking us right now”.

Bet IAEA is not going to notice anything wrong with any of it this time around as well, as per usual. Just like they still can’t tell who is periodically shelling the Zaporozhye NPP.

  2. Remember how Ukraine accused Russia of attacks on nuclear plant and how it may be disastrous for whole western part of continent? I guess it’s not a problem if nuclear plant is in Russia. What can possibly go wrong and what stupid prizes can Ukraine and Europe win from this?
