When in 2007 Lithuania’s then-Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Vygaudas Ušackas, organized the very first Ambassador’s Cup golf tournament, few could have imagined that nearly twenty years later this event would grow into one of the most anticipated sporting occasions for the Lithuanian community in Great Britain. Today, it has become a distinguished international golf and tennis tournament, bringing together professionals, amateurs, and representatives of business, culture, and diplomacy from across different countries.

The Lithuanian Chamber of Commerce in the United Kingdom (LCCUK), in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in the UK, invites guests on 26 September 2025 to the traditional and prestigious Ambassador’s Cup Golf and Tennis Tournament and Gala Evening.

This year’s tournament and evening program will take place at the magnificent Moor Park Golf Club in Hertfordshire. The club’s historic mansion and gardens are listed as part of England’s cultural heritage. The golf courses were designed by the renowned architect Harry S. Colt, and since 1923 the club has drawn players from all over the world.

The tournament will be joined by its founder and LCCUK initiator Vygaudas Ušackas, who this year will himself take to the golf course. Meanwhile, the tennis program will welcome former professional basketball player, philanthropist, and founder of the Rimantas Kaukėnas Charity Foundation, Rimantas Kaukėnas.

About the Program

The golf tournament is open to professional players and those who have already mastered the game well. Tennis, however, is open to everyone – even those who have never before held a racket. Beginners will be offered lessons with a professional coach.

The day will begin with sporting competitions: experienced players will compete on the championship courses at Moor Park, while tennis enthusiasts can either take part in the tournament or join special training sessions led by a professional instructor.

“I arrived in London as Lithuania’s Ambassador this August, and I am delighted to have already met members of our active Lithuanian community. To host this golf and tennis tournament in such a wonderful historic place as Moor Park is a perfect opportunity to connect more closely with members of the Chamber of Commerce, the business community, and other like-minded people,” – says Ambassador Asta Radikaitė. – “This event is a special example of how sport becomes a bridge of unity and friendship, linking different generations and experiences.”

“I am very pleased to join the tradition of the Ambassador’s Cup and to congratulate the winners of the golf and tennis tournaments. I believe this tradition will continue to stand as a fine expression of diplomacy, community spirit, and strong mutual ties,” – the Ambassador emphasizes.

In the evening, guests will gather for a gala awards dinner, hosted by one of Lithuania’s most charismatic actors, Eimutis Kvoščiauskas. The evening will feature live music, with performances by Ellie Marcinkevičienė, a professional vocalist, violinist, and pianist. The highlight of the celebration will be the awarding of tournament winners, after which the evening will continue with music and informal networking until midnight.

“The Ambassador’s Cup is an opportunity to enjoy high-level sport, a historic setting, and to build connections that often grow into lasting friendships and business partnerships,” – says LCCUK President Laura Budrienė.

The History of the Ambassador’s Cup

The inaugural Ambassador’s Cup golf tournament was held in 2007 at Brampton Park Golf Club in Cambridgeshire. The idea came from then-Lithuanian Ambassador to the UK Vygaudas Ušackas, who wished to make golf – so popular in England – a focal point for the Lithuanian community as well.

The first tournament saw teams from Lithuania and Great Britain compete. Lithuania was represented by top national golfers, including champion Rolandas Gaidys and US-certified coach Egidijus Baleišis, while the British team consisted of Brampton Park club players. Although modest in scale, the tournament quickly became a fine tradition and a solid sporting contest, with the main prize being a prestigious trophy.

Over time, the tournament expanded to include tennis. Today, the Ambassador’s Cup unites not only sports enthusiasts but also members of the business, diplomatic, and cultural spheres. Each year it brings together Lithuanian community members, professionals living in the UK, and guests from abroad.

Moor Park – A Historic Venue

Moor Park Golf Club is one of the most renowned golf clubs in the United Kingdom. In 2019, it was named Golf Club of the Year at the Club Mirror Awards and won the 59 Club’s Service Excellence Award.

The club boasts two championship courses designed by Harry Colt – The High and The West. The High Course consistently ranks among the top 100 in England and hosts such prestigious events as The Carris Trophy, British Open qualifying rounds, and the Hertfordshire Bowl. The club also offers top-class practice facilities and short-game areas.

For tennis enthusiasts, Moor Park provides 13 courts of various surfaces, including highly prized grass courts in the summer season.

Beyond sport, Moor Park is celebrated for its impressive surroundings and elegant event spaces. The 18th-century Moor Park Mansion is an architectural masterpiece and a listed heritage site. With its landscaped gardens, ornate halls, and frescoes, the estate is not only a sporting but also a cultural attraction.

Stepping through the doors of Moor Park, guests are greeted by centuries of history and grandeur. The Great Hall, with its lofty ceilings, 18th-century fresco cycles depicting mythological and historical scenes, and glittering crystal chandeliers reflecting on polished oak floors, creates a majestic atmosphere.

Elegant arcaded corridors lead to side rooms furnished with antiques, classical paintings, and delicately framed maps recalling Britain’s past. From the mansion’s windows stretch sweeping views of vast parkland and meticulously maintained gardens, with symmetrical hedgerows, fountains, and flowerbeds whose design has remained unchanged for more than a century.
