“We have to show THAT at this age?” mind you, the “that” he’s referring to is just the fact that gay couples exist in the world, in the same way hetero couples do. The simple response to his grandson’s question is “not all couples are men and women, and we should respect and treat everyone with kindness, regardless of our differences.” I mean why is that so difficult? How is that not a family-friendly message?
