EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 35-year-old woman who was struck and killed on Loop 375 near the Paisano exit on August 18 has been identified as a migrant from Ecuador, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Monday.
Officials said the woman who was attempting to cross the Cesar E. Chavez Border Highway earlier this month was hit by two vehicles as she ran across the road.
Officials said a Mazda 3 was driving westbound when the woman ran in front of the vehicle. However, after the woman was hit by the first vehicle, another vehicle approached and, despite the authorities’ efforts, the second vehicle did not stop and caused additional injuries.
According to CBP on Monday, the El Paso County Medical Examiner determined her death was accidental, resulting from blunt force trauma.
While CBP is reviewing the case, the El Paso Police Department has taken on the incident and is currently investigating.
